"Myth free" Islam taught at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma!

Dr. Bill Crowell, an associate pastor at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma has partnered with some of Oklahoma's most controversial Islamic leaders. 

Not too long ago, he moderated a panel in Tulsa on sharia law where some of the participants claimed ignorant Oklahomans were told what to think regarding a constitutional ban on litigating cases in Oklahoma court based on foreign law, including sharia law, which is the law of many Islamic countries.  One of the participants was Muneer Awad the director of CAIR's chapter in Oklahoma and is the man who sued the state.  Sharia law is NOT the same thing as sharia guidance (religious guidance) something Awad fails to distinguish.  Another panelist, Imam Imad Enchassis, of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, last year expressed his desire and hopes the Middle East will unite under a new caliphate!  Wonder if he would discuss his wishes at an interfaith meeting?  Shortly after I wrote about this, Imam Enchassi public posts became private.  You can read all my post about Enchassi here.  

Awad works for an organization that was started by leaders of the Islamic Association of Palestine, an over arm of the Muslim Brotherhood.  His twitter profile includes the phrase "the tweet of a scholar, is more holy than the blood of a martyr..." 

What Awad wrote appears to be a variation of a quote attributed to Sheik Abdullah Azzam in  Martyrs:  The Building Blocks of Nations (3rd paragraph).  I also found Azzam on a website called Inks of Scholars here. 

In a 2002 Slate article titled Dr Azzam, a Palestinian scholar,  it was reported he was a Muslim Brotherhood leader and a founding member of Hamas.  Azzam later became a mentor to Osama Bin Laden who went on to form al Qaeda.  In 1988, a year before Azzam was assassinated in Pakistan, he spoke (video) to Muslims in Oklahoma.  The Slate article described him as a great communicator of political Islam and In "The Encyclopedia of the Afghan Jihad, an 11-volume al-Qaida training manual, names two men in its dedication. One is Bin Laden, who is listed as the "faithful helper" of the other man, Abdullah Azzam."

I can't venture a guess why Awad wrote what he did.

During October and early November, Boston Avenue Methodist Church offered classes about Islam in an attempt to dispel the myths about this religion. Rev. Crowell was the contact. There were six sessions.  One session included speaker Allison Moore, an occasional spokeswoman for the Islamic Society of Tulsa.  She got my attention when she railed on against the FBI and in support of poor mistreated Anwar Awlaki at a Tulsa 9/11 Truthers meeting (see video)!  For more information about the Islamic Society of Tulsa read Backgrounder: Islamic Society of Tulsa.   Another session included Muneer Awad (all my posts about Muneer Awad are here). 

I wonder if one of the classes covered Islam's history of supremacy and conquests that's illustrated in the Atlas of the Islamic Conquests available at Islamic bookstore in the U.S.  I do know classes about the caliphates have been offered at Islamic Society of Tulsa.  Was this coverened in the "myth free" classes?

A Muslim acquaintance of Muneer Awad tweeted him on December 5th, suggesting Dr. Crowell might be a potential Muslim someday.

Dr. Crowell seems to be a great example when liberal Christians team up with Islamists against conservative Christians. I also think classes in the Christian faith have not, nor ever will be, offered at the Islamic Society of Tulsa or Oklahoma City.
