Muslim father kills daughter in Georgia to protect family honor

A 25-year-old woman, in the prime of her life, is dead at the hands of her own FATHER!  She was in an arranged a marriage and wanted a divorce.  In America,  she had the freedom to make this decision.  But for Sandeela Kanwal the glorious freedoms we have,  which we celebrated over the 4th,  didn't extend to her. 

Her father wept in court and proclaimed he did nothing wrong and then asked for a Muslim diet.

Police said it was an honour killing.  Sick.   Yet again,  another story that doesn't speak well at all for Islam, the religion of peace.

A Clayton County man was behind bars Sunday, accused of killing his own daughter.  Police said the father was angry because he felt his daughter was disgracing the family.

Investigators said 54-year-old Chaudhry Rashid was so outraged at his daughter, Sandeela Kanwal, and her plans for divorce that he killed her after a heated argument at the family's home.  Investigators said Rashad confessed to strangling the 25-year-old woman.

...Rashad was taken to the Clayton County jail.  Police said they interviewed Rashad and he said he killed his daughter as a matter of honor, because he felt her plans for divorce would have disgraced the family.

Update 6/9/08:  I'm innocent...But police say Rashid, 54, used a bungee cord to strangle Sandeela Kanwal, 25, early Sunday morning in the family's Utah Drive home in Jonesboro.

Rashid, who is being held without bond, told the judge he wanted to observe his Muslim beliefs in the Clayton jail. He wants to follow a diet that forbids the consumption of pork in any form and requires other meats are prepared according to Islamic rules.

In court, Rashid made guttural noises and cried. He rocked back and forth and appeared to be talking to himself before the hearing started. Through Farhat, Rashid told Walker he was mourning the loss of his daughter.

"My daughter just died and I am not in a state of mind to ask any questions," he said.

The father will be brought to justice for this crime, but it is sickening that these crimes have washed up on American shores.

And just because he's Muslim, this story makes it look like all Muslims do things like this. If all 1.8 billion of us were this crazy, then we'd be in big trouble.
