The Florida Security Council has produced a video you must watch which helps build upon the knowledge we have, or need to have about Islamism (Muslims who seek political power for the cause of Islamic supremacy). In this video a term is used called "progressive Islam" which is new to me - I'm not sure about it, yet, but the history of the Islamist movement in the video is powerful.
We need to educate ourselves and our children more on this movement and we must become passionately involved because Islamists, eat live and breath their cause every hour of every day. We no longer have the luxury to go about our daily lives without a care in the world, as we once did. The Florida Security Council will hold a demonstration (another good video) on Muslim Capitol Day on March 11th.
It is important to clarify there are Muslims who want to practice secular Islam in America who are against Islamism. These are the Muslims who need to rise up in America and it is up to us to do it. So, let's be clear - to be an activist against Islamism is not an indictment against all Muslims. Islamist will not separate the two while secular Muslims will.
Sayyid Qutb (PBS), the architect of the modern day Islamist movement mentioned in the video went to college at, what is now known as, the University of Northern Colorado in 1949. When he returned to Egypt, Qutb became a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood shortly after the founder Hassan al-Banna was assassinated in 1949. Other Islamists have also gone to this college, for some odd reason. I am reasonably sure most everything in this video can be backed by a credible proof source. I also want to point out the Saudi prince mentioned in the film is the largest stakeholder in News Corporation, the parent of Fox News, outside the Rupert Murdoch family, which is worrisome.
This video is disturbing because of the hate Islamists and their supporters have towards America, Christians and Jews and all others. Their view of the world is seen through Islamic supremacist lenses only. They threaten our democracy through their intimidations, coercion, hateful protests, ill will, action alerts and anti-security efforts, to name a few. Their cause is also aided by jihadists terrorists. They show their American neighbors the opposite how good neighbors treat each other. Part of their goal here is to use community organizing and other methods to mask their true intent based on internal Muslim Brotherhood documents found in America and presented as evidence in the trial largest Islamic charity in America for funding Hamas.

Wth Is "secular Islam"?

The simpliest way to describe it is to say secular Muslims are against Sharia law - an Islamist supremacist ruling system and want to live in a democracy.

You can not be a muslim and be against sharia. That is like a catholic who's against cannon law. Sharia is not some sinister manifesto. Its a group of laws that tell muslims their rights and responcabilitys. It also tells how a muslim society should work, how someone is to be punished if they neglect their duity or attempt to take someone's rights. One popular example of muslim haters is the punishment for adultary. Did you know that there has to be witnesses to the act? Did you know that a person who makes false accusations can be punished?

First of all - says who? Who says you cannot be a Muslim if you are against Sharia Law? Sharia Law is part of the literal interpretation of Islam. Most people believe, and rightly so, that the literal interpretion of any religious text is problematic.
Secondly, you live in America and our laws prevail and leaves religion out of it, for a good reason. What are you wanting - a separate society? Why are you even going there? It doesn't make sense.
Thirdly, Islamic law is a supremacist religous ruling system. Your religious text claims to be superior to all others. Most people in the world completely disagree with this book.
Muslims who think like this are Islamists to me and fits with what is known about the Islamic Society of Tulsa. Islamists are those who struggle to to gain political power for Islam and are contrary to the freedoms we enjoy in America and will never happen.
Furthermore, there isn't one Islamic country who uses Sharia law that can be pointed to as a glorious example for Islamic rule. Not one. That's all the proof one needs, IMO. Muslims claim this is because of dictators. No, this is a diversion from reality. It isn't because of the country's leader the problem is because of the ruling system which is based on Islamic law.
Let me say that again - there isn't one Islamic country that uses Sharia Law that isn't seriously problematic. You are kidding yourself here with a delusion.
I admire any and all Muslims who reject Sharia law. They are becoming more vocal and I welcome it and will do all I can to life them up.
You should study America and its law and be grateful for this country and what it stands for instead of believing in a ruling system that is a theocratical nightmare.

Sharia is a fundemental part of Islam. It tells how the teachings of Islam are implemented. You can not claim to be of a religion and throw out a central piece of it. I can see being against some interpretation/implementation. I am deffinantly against groups that want to force islam on a society that they've chosen to live in. However, if one can throw out essential parts of a religion then I am going to dissregard most of the new testament and start calling myself christian. Maybe then I can get jobs easier and breez through airport security

You say Sharia is fundemental to Islam.
I say this is what you are being taught to believe. But, there are a number of Muslims and groups that disagree with this stricter version of Islam.
I suggest you have an open mind and study about Sharia law from a critical stand point. For example, you will not be able to name one Islamic country that uses Sharia law as the country's ruling system that isn't horribly problematic. Now, that's a major red flag right there.
The glorious concept of Sharia you are being taught doesn't exist.
