Federal Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange took the side of CAIR Oklahoma's director Muneer Awad this afternoon agreeing that his 1st amendment right would be violated if the state banned sharia law from consideration in state courts. She granted him a preliminary injunction which will prevent the Oklahoma Election Board from certifying SQ 755 which passed with 70% of the votes, until the court rules on its legal merits, which could take a few months.
Miles-LaGrange, who was appointed by President Clinton, agreed with Awad from the first hearing held on this matter, so her ruling today is not surprising. At the initial hearing, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson (D) did not file a brief. Heck, he even has an assistant AG who writes opinion pieces favoring CAIR and Islam!
In her decision today, Judge LaGrange determined “Sharia Law” lacks a legal character. I wonder if she would include the fatwa issued by the Fiqh Council of North America in February that ruled it was un-Islamic for Muslims to use body scanners? The U.S. government did not challenge it.
Unindicted Hamas terror-funding co-conspirator CAIR is currently raising funds to fight the state of Oklahoma for their right to sharia law. Muneer Awad was earlier quoted in the pressclaiming he was doing this all alone with little help from CAIR.
