CAIR Oklahoma's "Youth Leadership Symposium" will be the weekend of July 29th at Oklahoma City University and at the Oklahoma State Capitol under the leadership of its director, Muneer Awad, the man who sued the state of Oklahoma over SQ 755, a constitutional amendment, which banned state courts from considering sharia in court decisions. Awad sued to keep the court from preventing this from happening or, in other words, I suppose someone could say he wants the court to rule in favor of sharia.
From CAIR Oklahoma's Facebook event page the goals for the activist training are:
The core mission of the Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS) is to provide American Muslim youth with a proactive agenda for positive activism; empower them to guide their communities from the margin to the mainstream; and foster a healthy American Muslim identity that fits comfortably within pluralistic American society.
MYLS provides high school seniors, and college students with the training and tools to advance both professionally and spiritually. Workshops include:
I. Fight For Your Rights- organizing protests & movements
II. Define & Defend Your Faith- combating Islamophobia
III. Political Activism- engaging your elected officials
IV. Muslim American or American Muslim - engaging in a pluralistic society
V. Internet Campaigning- creating proactive & positive buzz
VI. Debating The Issues- mock legislative session
Notice anything missing? Where are the workshops to reinforce the freedoms we enjoy and have struggled to keep in America that set us apart from most of the world, especially where a good number of Muslims here once lived? What about a workshop how to participate and communicate with others just as Americans instead of trying to "politely" shove their one-sided goals in our faces? Or what about a workshop on just how to have a healthy American identify? CAIR's motives to teach activism here is questionable. The whole thing just sets the wrong tone.
Participating at this year's youth activist training will be Imam Khalid Latif, Director, NYU Islamic Center & an Imam for the NYPD. His sermon on Duties of Brotherhood is - well - interesting. Corey Saylor, Government Relations Director at CAIR-National is the manager and one of the primary authors of CAIR's first Islamophobia report (video of press conference) that was done in partnership with U.C. Berkeley Dept on Race and Gender whose recent Islamophobia conference was funded in part by the Saudi's OIC! The OIC is the world largest Islamist inter-government agency and is based in Saudi Arabia. (FYI: Dr. Hatem Bazian, an anti-Israel professor affiliated with this department helped with the report and participated in the press conference. in 2004, Bazain called for an Intifada in the U.S. and proclaimed "you haven’t seen radicalism yet". Whoa now, that pretty strong, Dr. Bazain. In 2008 he participated in another Islamophobia conference at UCB. Bazian is a native Palestinian).
Also participating with CAIR will be Tamya Cox, Program Director, ACLU Oklahoma, Vanessa Faraj, Atlanta Peace Activist, Movement to End Israeli Apartheid-GA (MEIA-GA; anti-Israel), Ryan Kiesel, Former State House of Representative, Imam Imad Enchassi, Imam Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (anti-Israel).
Muneer Awad, who also appears quite anti-Israel, recently tweeted praises to CAIR's San Francisco self-described anarchist anti-Israel director Zahra Billoo about the Movement to End Israeli Apartheid-GA:
Here's another anti-Israel tweet from Billoo:
Guess who else is anti-Israel? The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and other Islamists (Islamic supremacists). These people whine about hate towards Muslims using words like bigots, Islamophobics all the while they constantly spew hate towards Israel. They reek of pure hypocrisy.
CAIR National, as most of you know, was started by leaders of an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America called the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP). CAIR was included in a 1994 written meeting agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood Palestine Committee from which IAP was born. This document was used as evidence in the largest Hamas terror-funding case in U.S. history, the Holy Land Foundation. This was part of the reason CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in this case.
In addition, CAIR National and ACLU of Oklahoma appear to have lost their tax-exempt status (CAIR under District of Columbia & American Civil Liberties Union, Inc. under Oklahoma) with the IRS for failing to submit the proper paperwork for three years in a row. When asked about this situation by Politico, CAIR gave conflicting statements. ACLU Oklahoma ignored my three tweets asking about their status.
One has to wonder why Islamic leaders in Oklahoma associate with such a highly controversial organization like CAIR, enough so, to have helped bring and support a chapter here.
