Some of the legislators who participated at the Inaugural Interfaith Iftar Dinner at the Oklahoma State Capitol on August 17th that, obviously, was to honor the Muslim religious holiday of Ramadan included State Senator Andrew Rice (D) (a friend of CAIR OK) and Oklahoma City Councilman Ed Shadid, who unsuccessfully ran with endorsement of the Green Party for a house seat in 2010. also a friend of CAIR OK. In April, Shadid stood with CAIR Oklahoma at their press conference at the Capitol knocking an anti-foreign law bill that had already been shelved in committee a few days earlier.
According to the Ahlul Bayt News Agency. Rep. Emily Virgin (D) Norman hosted the Ramadan dinner. Virgin tweeted about the dinner but for some odd reason left off the defining word Iftar:
I asked Ms. Virgin if a dinner had been held for Christians during any of their religious holidays at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Ms. Virgin tweeted me she didn't know if such a dinner had taken place and it was possible to arrange. Really? Well, Rep. Virgin let's get it arranged! She then asked me to write to her directly by email which is simply offensive to me since she was the one who tweeted about the dinner in the first place even though she omitted the defining word for it.
