In an article about Pamela Geller's pro Israel/anti-jihad ads that went up on some New York subways, CAIR New York's Executive Director Muneer Awad was quoted (H/T @antiCAIR) in a Staten Island on-line newspaper that CAIR won the appeal of the decision by the U.S. government to name them as unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation Trial - the largest Hamas terror-funding case in U.S. history:
Awad described Ms. Geller's comments about CAIR as "arguably one of the most poorly thought-out conspiracy theories of the year.
"Geller has invested her time and energy into resuscitating attention on CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator, an issue that has already been settled by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Department of Justice in CAIR's favor."
There is just one problem with Awad's statement - IT ISN'T TRUE! (CBN 11/26/2010):
The U.S. Justice Department has provided "ample evidence" that the Washington-based Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been involved in a conspiracy to support the terrorist group Hamas, according to a federal court ruling unsealed Friday.
"The four pieces of evidence the government relies on do create at least a prima facie case as to CAIR's involvement in a conspiracy to support Hamas," U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis wrote in his 20-page, July 2009 ruling.
Consequently, the court denied CAIR's request to have its name removed from documents listing the group as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case.
Among the evidence provided by the Justice Department are documents showing CAIR operated as a key member of the "Palestine Committee," the U.S. wing of Hamas. Also, both CAIR's founding chairman Omar Ahmad and acting executive director Nihad Awad were placed at a clandestine meeting with Hamas leaders in Philadelphia.
"The attendees agreed not to mention the word Hamas but to refer to Hamas as 'Samah,' which is Hamas spelled backwards," Solis said. "The Philadelphia conference essentially laid out the path that the Palestine Committee would take to accomplish its goal of supporting Hamas in the future."

Prior to becoming CAIR New York's new executive director in August, Muneer Awad was the executive director of CAIR Oklahoma. He's the individual who sued Oklahoma for its constitutional amendment than prohibits courts from using foreign law - including sharia law in its decision. Sharia law is used in a number of Islamic countries as the basis for their laws. Awad moved to Oklahoma just a short time before he sued. The case is pending. One has to wonder if this pending case has something to do with CAIR Oklahoma's claim that Muneer Awad still resides in Oklahoma even though he's the new Executive Director for CAIR New York. On September 26th, Awad tweeted about leaving work early to get home (Oklahoma? - that's were they say he lives):
On that same day, he tweeted: Honored to work where my inspiration is honored: Celebrating the Living History of #Harlem. #MalcomX #LangstonHughes
Harlem is in New York City. Two days later he tweeted about his long subway ride into work. Well - there are no subways in Oklahoma:
Seems odd to me.
This wasn't the first time Awad denied CAIR's ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Shortly after Awad sued Oklahoma in 2010, he was asked in a NYC radio interview about Washington-based CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas connection which is based on court documents that led to their unindicted co-conspirator status.
Awad said it wasn't true and that it was all lies...
