Mark Schlachtenhaufen of the Edmond Sun wrote an excellent article titled What’s the truth about CAIR? on March 6th.
The Sun even called the FBI in Washington and got their response to this highly controversial Islamic organization:
“CAIR has been advised of the reasons behind our suspension of formal partnership,” the FBI stated. “These reasons include the fact that CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in United States v. Holy Land Foundation and CAIR’s failure to answer our questions about a connection between their executives and Hamas. Until these questions are answered, the FBI does not consider CAIR an appropriate partner for formal liaison activities.”
CAIR's National Communications Director, Ibrahim Hooper, responded to the Sun by saying: “It is particularly galling when we hear these kinds of smears because we know what we do on a daily basis. He said he hoped American leaders would stand by CAIR when these smears happen. Hooper is reportedly a former employee of the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP) which was founded by the Muslim Brotherhood (U.S. vs. HLF Exhibit 003-0003, page 5), an internal MB document used as an exhibit in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas terror funding trial. On their website it states Hooper has been with CAIR since it was founded. CAIR's founders, Nihad Awad, its former president Omar Amad and Rafeeq Jaaber were all employees of IAP.
Hamas was started by the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine.
Hooper calls the truth a smear. CAIR is sadly mistaken to think deceit is going to work here.
Kevin Calvey, 5th District Congressional candidate, Cindy Crenshaw the President of Oklahomans Against CAIR Hate and Charlie Meadows, chairman of the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee were interviewed for the article:
...Area resident Charlie Meadows, chairman of the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee, said CAIR is a front organization to make Islam as appealing as possible to western culture...Calvey said the federal government should investigate CAIR, that the group’s tax exempt status should be in question and he wants all Oklahomans to be aware of what the organization is about. He said it is a problematic organization and his goal is to put the truth out about CAIR....Last month, Cindy Crenshaw, president of Oklahomans Against CAIR Hate, called for the condemnation of CAIR after a former CAIR leader was deported. Crenshaw, who was injured by an explosive device while she was serving in the Air Force in West Germany, said she wants Oklahomans to know the truth about CAIR, that it is a hate group like the Ku Klux Klan...
“It’s really very scary,” Calvey said. “This isn’t some innocuous group.”
Razi Hashmi, the director of CAIR's chapter in Oklahoma claimed this was part of larger problem of misunderstanding and misinformation.
No, it's part of the problem CAIR's has about being honest.
This article is very important. First, there's actually a reporter in Oklahoma brave enough to confront CAIR - unlike the Tulsa World and other newspapers and media who only publish what CAIR gives them. Secondly, CAIR employees has shown time and time again they will not be honest about the facts. Thirdly, Edmond Sun writer, William F. O'Brien, an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Oklahoma has written pieces that shills for CAIR here, here, here, and here. The last article recounted their annual dinner last year where a proclamation was displayed by Gov. Brad Henry which applauded the work done by CAIR in Oklahoma. I'm glad to see the Edmond Sun step up to the plate.
And lastly, Oklahomans aren't cowering down to CAIR's attempts to call the truth "smears" or lies and are taking action!
