The Muskogee Public Library will feature Dr. Don Betz in their Great Decisions series. Betz was appointed the president of Northeastern State Universty last year.
...“Dr. Betz has a loyal following here in Muskogee; many of our Great Decisions participants have attended since the first program, and they look forward to the programs in part because Dr. Betz has been a constant presenter,” Bryant said (Jan Bryant, head librarian)..."
Betz spoke on The United States and Rising Powers” on February 23rd. He will also speak on “Afghanistan/Pakistan;” on March 31 and on April 7th, Betz will speak on “Egypt in the 21st Century.”
Folks from Muskogee would probably be interested to learn Dr. Betz was the keynote speaker for CAIR Oklahoma at their annual fund-raising banquet in Oklahoma City last year. In 2007, CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest Hamas terror-funding case in U.S. history
A picture taken at the banquet shows a lightly bearded Betz standing next to lightly bearded CAIR co-founder and Executive Director, Nihad Awad. CAIR was started by leaders the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP), an overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. Nihad Awad was one of those leaders. And it might be a good time to remind others that Hamas was started by the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine whose goal is the destruction of Israel for Islam, meaning for Islamic supremacy. Awad was secretly recorded by the FBI plotting with other Hamas members how to hide their fund raising efforts for Hamas shortly before Hamas was designated a terrorist group. At this meeting, they also discussed the need to create another organization not so overt. And, you know what, that turned out to be CAIR. CAIR, IAP and other organizations were listed in the written agenda of the MB's Palestine Committee meeting in July 1994 (U.S. vs. HLF).
So, it's not surprizing Dr. Betz is talking about Middle East issues at the library but most Oklahomans might find him speaking at CAIR's banquet rather helpful because it's possible Betz could have an agenda.
UPDATE 12/18/10: Don Betz is listed as the author of a book titled Note from West Bank and Gaza, that was, apparently, published by the Palestinian Liberation Organization in 1988, which, if I'm not mistaken, was listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government at the time! Best I can tell Betz may have been working at NSU then.
Last week I wrote about the 2nd annual fund-raiser for the Council of American Islamic Relations of Oklahoma and the whitewashed job the Oklahoman (an Oklahoma City newspaper) did in covering this event.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Don Betz. And as predicted it was covered by Dubai-based Islamonline (the article has been removed from Islamonline so refer to the saved web page below):
Dr. Don Betz, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, addressed the crowd as the keynote speaker. He spoke about the need to work together and become civically engaged because the challenges we face will be far more difficult on our own.
The call tonight to civic engagement is intense and important and each one of us can look across the table and say that is a job for someone else to do but I can tell you that there is no better work to be done by education, by organizations like this, or by our families and groups than to raise productive, creative, ethical and engaged citizens and leaders. It is important that if you do not engage civically then the results you speak of do not occur,” said Dr. Betz. ---“We have to have these conversations, I submit to you tonight, because we are entering a period where the demand on us for change are going to be extreme.”
After doing some followup, I discovered he is actually the new president at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma! From the NSU we learn more about Don Betz:
...In 1982, he began his association with the United Nations as a consultant, and subsequently liaison officer, at the International Conference on the Question of Palestine. Two years later, he served as political affairs and liaison officer, at the UN conference on the Division for Palestinian Rights.
...Dr. Betz also has considerable international experience, having worked at the United Nations on the Question of Palestine, one of his areas of expertise, and having served as an assistant foreign editor for the Daily Star in Beirut, Lebanon, during the 1970s. He is the author of numerous final declarations, and statements and communiqués adopted at U.N. conferences.
...Betz earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Denver. He has held the position of professor of political science at University of Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State University and has awards for excellence in service and teaching.
The Oklahoman didn't mention Betz was NSU's new president. They reported he was the cancellor at the University of Wisconsin. Did they simply not do their homework? Oops, I completely forgot - they did a fluff piece for CAIR. CAIR didn't mention it either on their website. Why?
Betz was named the new president of NSU on April 8, 2008. Was there an attempt to avoid linking this keynote speaker for CAIR to the new president of a university in laid-back Oklahoma? CAIR is a highly controversial Islamic organization which tries to portray themselves as mainstream but their history and actions, even today, tell us otherwise.
In any event, you certainly can't rely on the newspapers, can you?
An interesting bit of information about Betz was a complaint filed against him and othersin 2006 for misusing the university list server to solicit college democrats and alleged criminal use of state resources for a political purpose although he wasn't directly responsible for the alleged offenses.
And in June 2007, Betz attended and served as a keynote speaker (page 11) at the International Conference of Higher Education under the patronage of His Majesty, the King Hamed bin Issa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain.
So is the Council of American Islamic Relations and the new president of NSU on the same page regarding Islamic activism in America? Are they supporters of Islamism?
..."With great gratitude and appreciation we received your kind letter, in which you expressed your support to the Palestinians peoples’ struggle against the Israeli criminal war, and Israeli State terrorism against us...We would like to thank you for supporting the Palestinians’ just rights and most importantly the right to return, establishment of the independent Palestinian State, with Jerusalem as its capital."

Little Green Football, on top of things as we've come to expect, has written about a ridiculous fluff piece about the Council of American Islamic Relations by reporter, Carla Hinton, at the Oklahoman/NewsOK. LGF, located in California, didn't realized this article was published in the largest print and on-line newspaper in the state of Oklahoma:
With all of the verified, documented information that has come to light about the Council on American Islamic Relations and their ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood—not to mention their status as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas funding trial—there’s simply no excuse for a context-free, totally whitewashed piece like this, even if it is in a relatively small Oklahoma newspaper: Murrah Building bombing shaped Muslim organization/span
The Council on American-Islamic Relations was a fledgling organization less than a year old when its co-founder, Nihad Awad, received an urgent telephone call from Oklahoma City in April 1995.
Shame on NewsOK.com and the The Oklahoman for publishing such a blatant piece of dishonest-by-omission, pro-extremist propaganda. Was religion writer Carla Hinton unaware of CAIR’s and Awad’s histories, or did she deliberately leave all of that out?
The fluffly happy-talk article went on to tell when Imad Enchassi, the imam and president of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, made the phone call to Awad, urging him to come to Oklahoma City. But, did you happen to notice how Awad tried to turn this disaster into one about Muslims?
Below is a picture of Nihad Awad speaking next to the Hezbollah flag in 2002.
I can't emphasize too much there's really so much more to know about CAIR and company, which you can review here. Please take your time, there's lot to learn.
Update 5/6/08: A letter-to-the editor was also published to help put CAIR in a good light to coincide with their fund raising dinner in Oklahoma City. Edmond Sun.
...The gathering was addressed via viedeotape by Keith Ellison, a Muslim member of Congress from Minnesota, who urged the attendees to get involved in the political process as a means to improve American society.
...CAIR’s executive director from Washington, D.C.,Nihad Awad (that's him standing by the Hezbollah flag above) told the group that the organization was dedicated to ensuring that the rights of Muslims and other minorities were respected in America.
Update 5/7/08: CAIR put the NewsOK story on their website which I'm sure will get picked up by Islamonline in the Middle East. Way to go Carla Hinton! CAIR changed the title of the story to place their name first on their website: CAIR: 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing Shaped Muslim Organization
And from CAIR's own write up about the evening we can probably be sure it will be posted by Islamonline in the Middle East:
“The call tonight to civic engagement is intense and important and each one of us can look across the table and say that is a job for someone else to do but I can tell you that there is no better work to be done by education, by organizations like this, or by our families and groups than to raise productive, creative, ethical and engaged citizens and leaders. It is important that if you do not engage civically then the results you speak of do not occur,” said Dr. Betz.
CAIR’s Nihad Awad motivated the crowd by bringing the work of CAIR and the Oklahoma chapter to the global vision for peace.
Well, does that really mean Islamic rule?
Update 5/10/08: As predicted, Dubia-based Islamonline carries article on CAIR-OK dinner.
Update 5/10/08: Shocka! The keynote speaker at CAIR-OK event, Dr. Don Betz, is the new President of Northeaster State University! Odd, this wasn't mentioned in the article at NewsOK. I guess they didn't do they homework.
Dr. Don Betz, a veteran educator and administrator with 37 years experience in higher education, has been named the sixteenth president of Northeastern State University by the Regional University System (RUSO) Board of Regents.
...In 1982, he began his association with the United Nations as a consultant, and subsequently liaison officer, at the International Conference on the Question of Palestine. Two years later, he served as political affairs and liaison officer, at the UN conference on the Division for Palestinian Rights. NSU
10/25/07: Nihad Awad discusses Islamofascist week on Middle East Al Jazeera TV here. He's at the 3.10 min mark (its in Arabic)
5/3/07: "...Muslims worlwide perceive...that the war on terrorism is, in fact, a war against Islam...," Nihad Awad on CNN :
In a March 22, 1994 speech at Barry University, future CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said in response to an audience question about the various humanitarian efforts in the Occupied Territories, "...after I researched the situation inside and outside Palestine, I am in support of the Hamas movement more than the PLO...
Nihad Awad was a former employee of the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP) which was started by terrrorist, Musa Marzook, a top leader in Hamas. To be fair, at the time Awad was employed there, Hamas had not yet been named a terrorist organization but they were very much under the radar of the federal government. Hamas was named a terrorist organization in 1995 shortly after Awad left IAP and started CAIR.
