86% of Islamic schools in Netherlands misuse government funds!

Leaders of the religion of peace in the Netherlands fraudulently used government funds 86% of the time at Islamic schools.  In addition, the quality of education is considerably poorer than the average school:

"Nearly nine out of 10 Islamic schools in the Netherlands spend government subsidies unlawfully. The education ministry confirmed yesterday following a report in De Telegraaf that 86 percent of the schools make fraudulent use of money.

De Telegraaf obtained a study by State Secretaries Sharon Dijksma and Marja van Bijsterveldt of Education of the 41 primary schools and two secondary schools that provide Islamic education. At half of the schools, the quality of the education is assessed as weak to very weak. At normal schools, this figure is 11 percent.

Additionally, financial mismanagement was established at 86 percent of Islamic school managements. The illegal spending ranges from salaries to 'teachers' who turn out to be the wives of management board members, unlawful payments for transport that is never hired and even, as already made known earlier, trips to Saudi Arabia - the school (Ibn Ghaldoun in Rotterdam) bought plane tickets for Muslims who had nothing to do with the school whatsoever.

The Islamic education "gives ground for great concern," said Dijksma and Van Bijsterveldt yesterday. The education ministry is trying to claim back 4.5 million euros in unlawfully spent subsidies from the schools. This is an increase of 2.5 million from fraud figures previously known.

UK watchdog group warns politically correct lauguage hurts fight against terrorism

Well, well, well.  I it appears not calling an Islamic terrorist by the accurate descriptive words is hurting efforts to fight Islamic terrorism.  Imagine that?

"Politically correct language is hampering the fight against terrorism, a Whitehall report warned yesterday.

Town halls and other public sector bodies were told by ministers last year to replace the phrase ‘terrorist attacks’ with ‘anti-Islamic activity’.

They were urged not to refer to ‘extremism’ and instead talk about ‘community resilience’.

But far from rallying Muslims against terrorists, the language has spread confusion, says the report from HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Audit Commission.

British school teachers to help identify would-be terrorists.

Today Britain has started a program in their schools to help identify potential terrorists in the making:

...Schools have seen students bringing far-right literature into the classroom and a primary-age pupil talking about the "7/7 martyrs", it was revealed today.

...The guidance says schools should identify pupils at risk of being drawn into extremism and encourages teachers to allow classes to discuss controversial issues such as terrorism and racism.

...The initiative comes amid fears that disaffected young people could be targeted by extremist groups.

Today's announcement comes just weeks after Britain's youngest terrorist, 18-year-old Hammaad Munshi was locked up for two years after plans to cause death and destruction were found hidden in his bedroom.

Islamic "terrorism chatter" indicates serious threat level in Britain

I remember shortly after 9/11 President Bush said the war against Islamic extremism would be a very long one.  Somehow, many Americans have forgotten the vast conspiracy by Islamists to destroy the West or his words.  And somehow many do not see an advantage to having a presence in or near the heart of the problem - Iraq.

Big mistake.

Today, the threat level for another Islamic terror attack in Britain is approaching the critical stage based on "chatter":

The threat level is at the "severe end of severe" according to sources who say the level of "chatter" among terrorist cells has increased in recent months.

The security services say they are now operating at full stretch to counter the elevated threat.

...MI5 is watching around 200 networks across Britain and MI6 and GCHQ are constantly monitoring communications on the crucial Afghan-Pakistan border area.

Some Muslims warn of serious repercussions if "Jewel of Medina" is published

Here we go again, with another story that doesn't speak well, at all, for the religion of peace.  This time it is happening in London, our closet ally, where a publisher is planning to go ahead with a fictitious novel called "Jewel of Medina".  Earlier an American publisher, Random House, backed out of publishing the novel - out of fear:

Fundamentalist Anjem Choudhary said repercussions would be "severe" for those involved with the Jewel Of Medina, a fictional account of the prophet's relationship with his 14-year-old wife Aisha.

Anti-terror police were today questioning three men about the attack on the Islington home of Martin Rynja, owner of the publishing company. Searches were also under way at four addresses in Walthamstow, Ilford and Forest Gate.

The Dutch publisher had been warned that he could be targeted by Islamic extremists. His company Gibson Square (London-based), which is run from an office in his house, has defended its decision to publish the novel by American Sherry Jones.

Mr Rynja, 44, was believed to be under armed guard after the attack on his £2.6 million townhouse in Lonsdale Square at about 2.30am on Saturday. He was not hurt but an accelerant was lit in the doorway. Neighbours described seeing smoke and flames.

American publisher, Random House, withdrew the book from publication last month saying it feared a violent reaction by "a small, radical segment" of Muslims.

Islamists pose danger in Germany

German police arrested two potential Islamic terrorists and are looking for two more men who might be planning attacks:

Politicians in Germany warned Saturday of the dangers posed by Islamists, following the arrest of two terrorist suspects and a police search for two others.

The arrests took place in Cologne on Friday when a Somali and a German of Somali descent were escorted off a plane bound for the Dutch city Amsterdam.

...Security sources said the pair had been under observation for months and were planning to travel via the Netherlands to a training camp for militants on the Pakistan-Afghan border.

Earlier this week, three teenagers of Turkish descent were arrested in Cologne after luring two police officers into an ambush and firing blanks at them. The trio told prosecutors they planned to steal the officers' firearms and use them in attacks on Americans and other targets as part of a holy war for which they were prepared to die.

Interior ministers from the US and six European countries meanwhile called Saturday for greater cooperation to combat international terrorism.

Islam rules in Sheffield, England!

Here's an example how serious Muslim domination is seeping into Britain, rule by rule, where one city council decided non-Muslims cannot be buried on Saturday.

This is exactly what might happen in the U.S. if Americans remain asleep at the wheel about creeping sharia:

Harold Lemaire, a retired steel erector, died in a nursing home last week at the age of 75 after suffering a stroke. His stepdaughter Jean Maltby wanted to hold the funeral service this Saturday to allow members of the family who live outside the area to attend.

But when a funeral director called Sheffield's City Road Cemetery to make the arrangements he was informed it was not allowed because the family were not Muslim.

Mrs Maltby, 56, said: "I was stunned when I learned we couldn't have the service and burial on a Saturday. It's 2008 but there seems to be a group of rules for one section of society and a group of rules for another."

Sheffield City Council said it did not allow funerals to be held at weekends, except for Muslims because Islam deems that the dead must be buried as soon as possible.

Michael Fogg, the funeral director, said: "I believe a service offered to one section of society should be given to everyone. Mr Lemaire was a citizen of Sheffield who deserves this service from the council."

Martin Green, senior bereavement services manager for Sheffield, said the council's policy was in line with that of other local authorities.

He said: "The council recognised the specific cultural and religious needs surrounding burial and has been offering an extended burial service to the Muslim community.

..."The Jewish religion calls for burial to take place within a limited time but Jews cannot be buried in Sheffield on Saturday or Sunday, only Muslims.

Britain's Islamic study circles encouraged killing

Oh, oh this report about some of the women's Islamic study groups in Britain doesn't speak well for the religion of peace:

Women preachers are urging followers at one of Britain’s most influential mosques to kill homosexuals and view all non-Muslims as “vile”, according to a television documentary.

The London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre, known as the Regent’s Park Mosque, is one of the most respected centres for moderate Islam in western Europe.

However, an undercover investigation by the Channel 4 Dispatches programme has found extremist preachers have held study circles there and are teaching followers a hardline version of the faith followed in Saudi Arabia, known as Wahhabism.

The documentary, to be broadcast tomorrow, is a follow-up to Undercover Mosque, which investigated a number of mosques and was made by the same team more than a year ago. That resulted in an investigation by West Midlands Police, who accused the makers of distorting sermons and inflaming tensions. Officers took no action against extremist preachers whose words were broadcast. Ofcom rejected the complaint and the force had to apologise to Channel 4. It agreed at the High Court to pay £100,000 for libel.

In the new documentary, a female reporter infiltrated women’s study circles. In one, a preacher using the name Umm Amira told followers: “We are not going to be like animals . . . or to be like the homosexuals, God save us from that, you understand? We have to take the judgment, the judgment is to kill them.”

Umm Amira is recorded as saying converts from Islam should also be killed. “He is Muslim and he gets out of Islam, he doesn’t want any more. What are we going to do? We kill him, kill, kill.”

In another study circle, Umm Amira describes Christians as “vile”. Another preacher, Umm Saleem, tells her congregation not to take British citizenship or become friends with nonMuslims.

Nearly one-third of British Muslim students polled believe killing in the name of Islam can be justified

Almost a third of British Muslim students interviewed believe killing in the name of Islam can be justified, according to a poll.  Some Muslims dismissed the poll as the work of a right-wing think-tank.

The study also found that two in five Muslims at university support the incorporation of Islamic sharia codes into British law.

The YouGov poll for the Centre for Social Cohesion (CSC) will raise concerns about the extent of campus radicalism. “Significant numbers appear to hold beliefs which contravene democratic values,” said Han-nah Stuart, one of the report’s authors. “These results are deeply embarrassing for those who have said there is no extremism in British universities.”

...The researchers found that 55% of nonMuslim students thought Islam was incompatible with democracy. Nearly one in 10 had “little respect” for Muslims.

In addition to its poll of 1,400 Muslim and nonMuslim students, the centre visited more than 20 universities to interview students and listen to guest speakers. It found that extremist preachers regularly gave speeches that were inflammatory, homophobic or bordering on antisemitic.

Is Christianty declining in Europe?

There are reports, from time to time, about what appears to be the decline of Cristianity in Europe.  This decline may be led, in part, because the West's failure to procreate.  Think about how few children there have been since the birth control pills was invented? Immigrants, both legal and illegal, are now filling that void.  Why, officials didin't see this coming is beyond me.

Today, I read about a church abadoned in England in 2000 because the owners could not make the repairs which has been approved to become a mosque.  Amazing isn't it that this new immigrant community have to money citizens don't?

Plans to convert the crumbling former St Matthew's Church in the city into a mosque were approved last night at a meeting of Lincoln City Council.

Concerns had been raised about the extra traffic the mosque might generate but just three formal objections were made and councillors passed the application unanimously.

Dr Tanweer Ahmed, trustee and committee member of the Islamic Association of Lincoln, said he was delighted by the decision.

"People have an affinity with their own place of worship - at the moment we go to the Grandstand in Carholme Road for Friday prayers which we rent from the city council," he said.

Woman denied French citizenship: Islamic practices incompatible with French values

After seeing this week my first fully veiled Muslim with only a slit for her eyes, I rather like the stance and justificantion the French has taken in this case:

A French court has refused citizenship to a Moroccan woman, ruling that her practice of Islam is too "radical" and she is too submissive to be compatible with basic French values.

The Conseil d'Etat, France's highest court, said her religious practices were "incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes". Until now, the court had rejected only Muslim applicants deemed sympathetic to fundamentalist groups.

The 32-year-old Moroccan woman, named as Faiza M, lives with her French husband and their three children, all born in France. The family practise Salafism, which involves a strict interpretation of Islamic dress-codes and personal status law, and as such Mme M wears a black burqa that covers her body except her eyes.

Mme M, who has lived in France since 2000, had asked the court to overturn her failed 2005 citizenship application, which was rejected because of "non-integration". But the court upheld the decision, citing her strict dress code and private life as reasons .

Emmanuelle Prada-Bordenave, the government commissioner who delivered the ruling, said Mme M had presented herself for interviews with immigration officials "attired from head to toe in the clothing of women from the Arabian peninsula, with a veil covering her hair, forehead and chin and a piece of cloth over her face. Her eyes could only be seen through a small slit. She lives virtually as a recluse, disconnected from French society. She has no concept of laïcité [the French doctrine of religious neutrality] nor the right to vote. She lives in total subservience to the men in her family."

Switzerland to hold national vote on banning minarets

More news that helps us better understand the global spread of political Islam which is a basic part of Islam.

Switzerland will hold a nationwide referendum on whether to ban the construction of minarets where Muslims traditionally issue the call to prayer, officials said Tuesday.

Swiss nationalists have collected enough signatures to force a vote on the ban, the Interior Ministry said.

Organizers backed by the nationalist Swiss People's Party and the fringe Federal Democratic Union say they are acting to fight the political spread of Islam. They argue that the minaret is a symbol of political and religious claim to power rather than a mere religious sign.

Students punished after refusing to pray to Allah

FYI:

Two schoolboys were given detention after refusing to kneel down and 'pray to Allah' during a religious education lesson.

Parents were outraged that the two boys from year seven (11 to 12-year-olds) were punished for not wanting to take part in the practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.

They said forcing their children to take part in the exercise at Alsager High School, near Stoke-on-Trent - which included wearing Muslim headgear - was a breach of their human rights.

...Parents said that their children were made to bend down on their knees on prayer mats which the RE teacher had got out of her cupboard and they were also told to wear Islamic headgear during the lesson on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy headmaster Keith Plant said: "It's difficult to know at the moment whether this was part of the curriculum or not. I am not an RE teacher, I am an English teacher.

England's most senior judge says use Sharia Law for disputes with Muslims

Why is England allowing the formation of another society complete with their own laws?  It doesn't make any sense.  This is really dangerous and will likely backfire someday:

The most senior judge in England yesterday gave his blessing to the use of sharia law to resolve disputes among Muslims.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips said that Islamic legal principles could be employed to deal with family and marital arguments and to regulate finance.

He declared: 'Those entering into a contractual agreement can agree that the agreement shall be governed by a law other than English law.'

In his speech at an East London mosque, Lord Phillips signalled approval of sharia principles as long as punishments - and divorce rulings - complied with the law of the land.

But his remarks, which back the informal sharia courts operated by numerous mosques, provoked a barrage of criticism.

Lawyers warned that family and marital disputes settled by sharia could disadvantage women or the vulnerable.

Sniffer dogs used to detect explosive; Muslims say it's against their religion

When it comes to preventing an Islamic terrorist attack, it seems just about every method used, either here in the U.S. or in our closest ally, Britian, Muslims seem to object.  I'm glad to see Britain isn't backing down:

Questions have been raised over using sniffer dogs to search Muslim passengers at train stations following complaints that it is against their religion.

Some Muslims had raised objections over being searched by the explosive-detecting animals, but British Transport Police have said they will continue to use the specially trained animals.

Dogs are considered to be unclean or impure in Islamic teaching and it is forbidden to keep the animals as pets.

The complaints came after a rail security trial at Brighton station, the Government revealed.

The Muslims reported that it was not permissible for them to have direct contact with dogs due to their religious or cultural beliefs.

In another trial on the Heathrow Express platform at London's Paddington station, there were instances when the body scan was considered unacceptable on religious grounds by female Muslims, the Government report said.

Muslim youth in Britain increasingly turning to extremism

There is a new report out about young Muslims in Britain which sure doesn't speak well for the religion of peace:

In the most comprehensive research of its kind to date, Prof Martin Innes, of the Universities' Police Science Institute in Cardiff, led a team of researchers which carried out face-to-face and telephone interviews  with more than 600 Muslims in London, Birmingham and Oldham.

They found that the radicalisation of young British Muslims was more widespread than previously feared, with "a disturbing proportion" expressing support for extremist elements.

The report, which is being distributed among senior officers, Whitehall officials and ministers, finds that:

• Anger and disaffection are "widespread in sections of Muslim youth".

• There is tacit support for extremist violence within sections of the Muslim community.

It was the Sri Lankan envoy who raised concerns over the British monarchy.

British Muslim parents to blame for children who turn to extremism

Muslims who fail to integrate into Western society can be drawn to extremeism and may become a major problem in Britain:

British Muslim parents are to blame for leaving their children open to the lure of Islamic extremism, according to an influential academic

Dr Farhan Nizami CBE, a key adviser on Islam to the Prince of Wales, accused British Muslims of failing to make sure their children learn to speak English or supporting them in their education.

He said this leaves them alienated from mainstream society and exposed to being groomed by radical Islamic groups.

It is the first time Dr Nizami, the director of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, which has links with Oxford University, has spoken out about the failure of Muslims to integrate with British society.

The academic institution, whose patron is the Prince of Wales, carries considerable influence and aims to build bridges between Islam and the West.

His comments come just weeks after the Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, warned that radical Islam is filling the "moral vacuum" created by the decline of Christian values in Britain.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Dr Nizami said Muslims would never play a full role in British society until they improved their education, language and aspirations.

...The four suicide bombers who murdered 52 people in London on July 7, 2005, were all born in Britain while the four Islamic terrorists jailed for plotting to blow up Bluewater and the Ministry of Sound with half a ton of fertiliser were all raised and schooled here.

Jordan seeks arrest of Danes in cartoon publishing

Once again, this news doesn't speak well for the religion of peace.  Apparently, this country believes it can impose its rule on another country and its citizens:

Eleven Danes have been summoned to appear before the Jordanian pubic prosecutor to answer charges of blasphemy and threatening the national peace. They include the cartoonist who drew one of the Mohammed cartoons and editors from 10 of the 17 newspapers that reprinted them.

The group behind the announcement is called The Prophet Unites Us, a union of Jordanian media organisations, organisations and private individuals.

'The public prosecutor decided to summon the Danes for a series of criminal offences. Now the Danes have to meet in Jordan,' said Zakaria al-Sheikh, the group's general secretary, to Politiken newspaper.

He explained that the public prosecutor will ask the Danish embassy for help in contacting Danish officials to arrange the meeting of the editors.

Osama al-Bettar, the group's lawyer, said that if the Danes do not appear, the next step will be to inform Interpol and seek their arrest.

The public prosecutor confirmed to Politiken that the editors have been summoned.

However, the Danish foreign ministry has said that a forced deportation is not a possibility. It would require that the printing of the Mohammed cartoons is punishable in Denmark, which is not the case.

Brigitte Bardot convicted for the 5th time for expressing concern about Muslims in France

So much for free speech or the ability of being able to express your concerns freely without being hauled to court:

Books-bardot385_272023a

A Paris court on Tuesday convicted Brigitte Bardot of provoking discrimination and racial hatred for writing that Muslims are destroying France.

The court also handed down a $23,325 fine against the former screen siren and animal rights campaigner.

A leading French anti-racism group known as MRAP filed a lawsuit last year over a letter she sent to then-Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy. The remarks were published in her foundation's quarterly journal.

In the December 2006 letter to Sarkozy, now the president, Bardot said France is "tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."

She was referring to the Muslim feast of Aid el-Kebir, celebrated by slaughtering sheep.

French anti-racism laws prevent inciting hatred and discrimination on racial or religious or racial grounds. Bardot had been convicted four times previously for inciting racial hatred.

Britain: American Christians told handing out Bible leaflets in Muslim area was a hate crime

This is troubling and doesn't speak well for the religion of peace:

Two Christian preachers were stopped from handing out Bible extracts by police because they were in a Muslim area, it was claimed yesterday.

They say they were told by a Muslim police community support officer that they could not preach there and that attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity was a hate crime.

The community officer is also said to have told the two men: 'You have been warned. If you come back here and get beat up, well, you have been warned.'

A police constable who was present during the incident in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham is also alleged to have told the preachers not to return to the district.

It comes amid growing concern over the development of Islamic 'no-go areas'.

The preachers, Americans Arthur Cunningham and Joseph Abraham, are demanding an apology and compensation from West Midlands Police.

They say their treatment breaks the Human Rights Act, which guarantees freedom of religious expression.

They have accused the officer, PCSO Naeem Naguthney, of behaving in an 'aggressive and threatening' manner. A complaint by their lawyers said he interrupted as they spoke to Muslim youths about their beliefs.

Mr Abraham, 65, who was born a Muslim in Egypt and is a convert to Christianity, said: 'He told us we were trying to convert Muslims to Christianity and that that was a hate crime.

'He was very intimidating and it concerns me that somebody holding his views can become a police officer, albeit at PCSO level.'

Mr Cunningham, 48, a fellow American Baptist missionary, said: 'He realised we were Americans and then started ranting at us about George Bush and American foreign policy.

'He said we were in a Muslim area and were not allowed to spread our Christian message. He said he was going to take us to the police station.'

The Alum Rock area was at the heart of a terrorism inquiry last year, which ended with the conviction of local resident Parviz Khan for plotting to kidnap and behead a British soldier.

A senior Church of England bishop, the Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali, warned recently that it is hard for non-Muslims to live and work in some areas where radicals and clerics are trying to impose an Islamic character.

Senior Bishop warns of decline in Christianity filled by Radical Islam

I am becoming a a big fan of the Rt Rev. Nazir-Ali's fight to call attention to the decline of Christianity and its moral values in England.  If he is right, there could be serious problems looming:

Radical Islam is filling a ‘moral vacuum’ in Britain, a senior Church of England bishop has warned.

The Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, has said that the decline of Christian values has meant that Britain is now gripped by the doctrine of ‘endless self-indulgence’ which had led to the destruction of family life.

He warned that the ‘newfangled and insecurely founded doctrine of multiculturalism' has led to immigrants creating ‘segregated communities and parallel lives’.

In an article published in the new political magazine Standpoint, Nazir-Ali claimed that the Church lost its influence over the country’s morals during the 'social and sexual revolution' of the  1960s.

'It is this situation that has created the moral and spiritual vacuum in which we now find ourselves.

'While the Christian consensus was dissolved, nothing else, except perhaps endless self-indulgence, was put in its place.'

The bishop’s comments are just the latest in a long line of combustible remarks he has made over the relationship between Islam and the West.

Earlier this year Nazir-Ali, faced death threats when he said that that some parts of the country had become ‘no-go areas’ for non-Muslims.

Last weekend he also courted controversy by claiming that the Church was not doing enough to convert Muslims to Christianity

The  Bishop of Rochester has emerged over the past two years as the Church of England's pre-eminent defender of traditional Christianity.

The Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali' is among the clerics who speak most strongly against attempts to remove signs of Christianity from public life.

His outspokenness has put him in the vanguard of opposition to hardline Islamism and made him one of the highest-placed enemies of the gay rights movement. He has set himself against feminism by criticising couples who decline to have children

And he also appears the bishop most at odds with the leading Anglican liberal, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams.

...He has accused Muslims of promoting double standards by looking for both 'victimhood and domination'; he has called for powers for officialdom to remove veils from Muslim women for security reasons; and he has warned repeatedly over the dangers of extremism.

In particular he has called on Islamic leaders to allow Muslims to abandon their beliefs and adopt other religions.

Dr Nazir-Ali has spoken up for an estimated 3,000 Britons under threat of retaliation for giving up their faith and he has condemned Islamic states that maintain the death penalty for apostasy.

Australian authorities reject plans for Islamic school

FYI:

Australian authorities rejected the development of a 1,200-student Islamic school on the outskirts of Sydney on Tuesday saying it was inappropriate for the small town where anti-Muslim protesters opposed the school.

Camden Council voted against the school being built based on concerns over the impact on traffic flows, loss of agricultural land, but not on religious grounds.

"It is a site issue ... we said all along religious issues, nationalistic issues, will not be entered into," Mayor Chris Patterson told local media.

The school was planned for Muslim students and would have taught the standard Australian education programme but also conducted religious classes just as Catholic and Anglican schools in Australia do.

However, the school development has sparked anti-Muslim sentiment in Camden, with pigs heads being planted on spikes and threats to attack any Muslims attending the school.

Muslim dominate prisoners pose serious threat in one prison in Britain

FYI:

Prison officers at one of Britain's maximum security jails are losing control to Muslim gangs, according to a confidential report obtained by The Observer. An internal review of Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire warns that staff believe a 'serious incident is imminent' as several wings become dominated by Muslim prisoners.

The report, written by the Prison Service's Directorate of High Security, says there is an 'ongoing theme of fear and instability' among staff at Whitemoor, where just under a third of the 500 prisoners are Muslim.

It claims: 'There was much talk around the establishment about "the Muslims". Some staff perceived the situation at Whitemoor had resulted in Muslim prisoners becoming more of a gang than a religious group. ---The situation has become so acute that white prisoners are routinely warned about the Muslim gangs by staff on arrival.

The report says that apprehension about Muslim prisoners has potentially damaging consequences and is in danger of 'leading to hostility and Islamophobia'. It serves to highlight the growing concern about extremist activity in the UK's jails.

...The emergence of gang culture in Whitemoor has alarmed some prisoners. The team that compiled the report found that over the Christmas period the segregation unit was full as inmates sought refuge from the gangs over debt problems and drugs.

Henry Bellingham, the Conservatives' shadow justice minister, who has raised concerns about the running of Whitemoor in parliament, said he welcomed the report. 'However, I'm very concerned about some of the findings,' he added. 'They point to a systematic breakdown in the chain of command. It's in everyone's interests that these problems are sorted out soon. Whitemoor holds some of the most dangerous prisoners in the country.'

Islamic convert detonated small bomb in Britain yesterday

FYI:

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in Exeter yesterday where a recent convert to Islam, Nick Reilly, detonated an explosive device.

Devon and Cornwall police held a press conference this afternoon where it was confirmed the man was arrested at 15:30 BST on Old Town Street, Plymouth.

Bomb disposal units were present at the arrest and the man is now in custody, police confirmed.

A second man is helping officers with enquiries but has not been arrested.

Police earlier appealed for eyewitnesses to come forward with any information regarding yesterday's incident.

Mr Reilly, 22, is currently being held in custody after injuring himself in a blast he apparently caused at the Giraffe restaurant Thursday lunchtime.

Officers are continuing searches at the shopping centre restaurant and an address linked to Mr Reilly in King Street, Plymouth.

Deputy Chief Constable Tony Melville launched an appeal for eyewitnesses as detectives begin to establish Mr Reilly's movements on Thursday.

Radical Islamic preacher given bail in Britain.

It's pathetic when a country, such as Britain, can't deport a destructive Islamist because his native country may hurt the guy.  Why don't they put him on trial?

A radical Muslim preacher accused of having close ties to al-Qaida was granted bail by a British immigration appeals commission Thursday.

Abu Qatada, who was jailed in 2002 over accusations that he played a key role in raising money for extremist groups and provided spiritual advice to militants planning terror attacks, will remain in custody until arrangements for his release are completed.

Judge John Mitting ruled the cleric should be released after the Court of Appeal ordered the government in April to stop extradition proceedings, claiming he faced the threat of torture if returned to his native Jordan.

But the judge acknowledged Qatada could pose a national security threat and imposed a strict 22-hour curfew, meaning he must be inside his home for all but two hours a day. Precise details of the curfew will be decided at another hearing, probably within two weeks, officials said.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she was extremely disappointed with the decision and would "take all steps necessary to protect the public."

The government has been attempting to deport Qatada to Jordan, where he was convicted in connection with two 1998 bombings. Smith said the government would continue its efforts to deport the preacher.

Qatada has been described by a Spanish judge as Osama bin Laden's "spiritual ambassador in Europe," and Britain says he has connections with al-Qaida, Egypt's Islamic Jihad and other terror groups. Officials claim he had links to shoe bomber Richard Reid and Zacarias Moussaoui, who was convicted for his role in the Sept. 11 attack.

Muslims converting to Christianity is a thorny issue almost anywhere in the world, but recently U.K. media attention has focused in on the persecution of former Muslims not in foreign land but in its own backyard.

BBC, U.K.’s leading news network, featured several stories and programs in recent months devoted to the issue of persecution of Christian converts from Islam. In its latest feature on Monday, it highlighted real cases of England-based Muslims who convert to Christianity and the consequences that follow.

Sophia (not her real name) is from a Pakistani background but lives in east London. Her family has put extreme pressure on her to return to Islam since she converted to Christianity.

“They kept saying, ‘The punishment is death, do you know the punishment is death?” she recalled to BBC.

...Former Muslim turned Christian leader, Dr. Patrick Sookhdeo of the Barnabas Fund, said he is “delighted” to see the British media zoom in on the issue of conversion from Islam and the persecution of former Muslims.

“As a convert from Islam myself, part of my life’s work has been to seek to see this most cruel of laws removed from Islam, and to see that Christians like myself are given freedom to choose and believe without facing persecution and possibly death,” Sookhdeo wrote in a Barnabas e-mail newsletter Monday.
