Saudi king seeks global interfaith respect while public practice of non-Islamic faiths in own country banned!

What a joke:

The head of the UN General Assembly decried the West's "unbridled greed" yesterday as he opened a conference on religious tolerance that appeared to be full of contradictions.

Reverend Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann spoke just before Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, who called for inter-faith respect despite laws in his country permitting the practice of only one narrow sect of Islam.

...Mr. Brockmann, a Nicaraguan priest and president of the 192-country assembly since September, organized the conference. It is "sponsored" by Saudi Arabia, which had sought a UN follow-up to its efforts aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue through a conference held in July in Madrid.

...The Saudi monarchy's critics dismiss the campaign, claiming such statements are frequently made on the international stage while the practice of restricting religious observance continues domestically.

Saudi Arabia enforces a strict and conservative version of Sunni Islam, while its more than two million Shiites face discrimination in education and employment. Public worship for all other religions is banned and religious police ensure Muslims pray five times a day.

National Post

Update 8:25 PM:  "...One delegate announced the plan to establish an Islamic peace foundation in the US by the end of this year, adding that the foundation would work for translating the king’s initiative into action.  Oh, oh...

...Jordan’s King Abdallah said it was impossible to talk about interfaith harmony without resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“I can think of no more effective way to ease East-West and interfaith tensions than to end this divisive conflict,” he said.

A string of Arab leaders said Islam was falsely accused of backing terrorism. They said their religion calls for moderation and tolerance and eschews extremism, violence and bigotry.  Sure...

King Abdullah wants UN to create body to oversee religious dialogue

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia may propose to the UN they create a UN interfaith body that oversee all religious dialogues.  His kingdom forbids the practice of religious freedom so why would he encourage interfaith talks that are forbidden in Saudi Arabia?  It makes no sense.

Today and tomorrow, the UN is holding an interfaith conference at the request of King Abdullah.  It is clear, based on previous reports, his goal is to protect Islam, rather than protect religious freedom.

Will he succeed?

Will King Abdullah seek U.N. oversight over ALL religious dialogue?

A religious dialogue conference, organized this past summer by the ruler of Saudi Arabia where the strictest form of Islam is practice, seeks to create guidelines for worldwide interfaith dialogues, overseen by the United Nations,  This is an attempt to bring Western countries and their freedom of expression under the arm and critique of the U.N. with the goal to stop criticism of Islam.

It is dangerous.

You can call me a skeptic, if you like, but this conference did come up with a declaration calling for the U.N. to oversee ALL religious dialogue even at the local level.

From the Madrid Declaration:

"...To agree on international guidelines for dialogue among the followers of religions and cultures through which moral values and ethical principles, which are common denominators among such followers, so as to strengthen stability and achieve prosperity for all humans..."

To work on urging governmental and non-governmental organizations to issue a document that stipulates respect for religions and their symbols, the prohibition of their denigration and the repudiation of those who commit such acts..."

The Saudi ruler will travel to the United States to discuss his proposal further with the U.N. next month.

"Diversity training" teaches 5 year olds about homosexuals in Massachusetts!

Below is a must watch video what happened in Massachusetts. where it's legal for gays to marry, where public officials have approved the teaching of homosexuality to 5 year-olds in the name of "diversity".

Apparently, if you are a parent in this state and object to your five year-old being given a book that included the introduction to homosexuality, you don't have any right to ask for advance notice so you can opt your child out from this type of "diversity" training.

Now, let me say right now I know a few gay people who are the nicest, kindest and bravest people I have ever known.  I believe in their rights to have legal partnerships and the pursuit of happiness just like all Americans.  This is about teaching and introducing kidergartners about sexual perferences which is totally inappropriate! They don't have a clue at this age.  Schools should not have any training in this regard it should be up to parents. This also show us what is happening in states that have sanctioned gay marriages which is very concerning.

News coverage of father's arrest.

Update 10/27/08:  In San Franciso, 1st graders attend a gay marriage in a school sponsored field trip.

Three states so far allow gay marriages:  California, Massachusetts and in October, Connecticut.  Vermont, New Jerseey and New Hamshire allow legal unions for gays.

California voters will vote whether to ban gay marriages or not on November 4th.

Mennonite Central Committee urged Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to allow religious diversity

Last night there was a dinner for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sponsored by American Friends Service Committee, Mennonite Central Committee, Quaker United Nations Office, Religions for Peace and World Council of Churches in consultation with the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations.

This dinner has been soundly criticized by many.  But I thought it was interesting to note what took place at the dinner according to the Mennonite Central Committee:

Arli Klassen, executive director of Mennonite Central Committee, -- lit an oil lamp as a symbol of faith -- to reflect on peacemaking from their own faith perspectives.  "As a Christian, I believe that we are following Jesus Christ's example and his teaching as we eat together and hold this dialogue despite our many differences," Klassen said.

...Klassen raised concerns about his statements on the Holocaust and Israel, Iran's nuclear program and religious freedom in Iran.

"We ask you to find a way within your own country to allow for religious diversity, and to allow people to make their own choices as to which religion they will follow,"Klassen said.

Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, a leader in the Jewish Renewal movement, spoke -- her work for reconciliation between Muslims and Jews and Palestinians and Israelis. She also spoke --  of mourning the deaths of all victims of war, including the millions of people killed in the Holocaust, World War II and wars in Iran and Iraq.

"Because of the Holocaust, I learned from the rabbis who ordained and guide me, to be active in preventing further suffering of all human beings as a primary religious call to action," Gottlieb said.

Dr. John Brademas, a former U.S. congressman and president emeritus of New York University, served as the event moderator. Along with several of the evening's speakers, Brademas called for direct negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Yet, despite all their efforts at dialogue, Ahmadinejad never address any of their issues directly and left before answering any questions after speaking at some length about Islam.

"All divine prophets have spoken of one truth," Ahmadinejad said. "The religion of Islam is the same as that offered by Moses."

So much for dialogue with an enemy of America and Israel.

Religous freedom declining in Eqypt

The government of Egypt has failed to correct indifferences and practices that discriminate against Christians and other religious minorities:

Freedom of religious belief in Egypt "declined" between July 2007 and June 2008, according to the US State Department's annual assessment of religious freedom throughout the world, the International Religious Freedom Report.

...The report describes legislation and governmental practices which discriminate against Egypt's religious minorities and adherents of Islamic teachings viewed as heretical by the state.

Acts of discrimination against Egypt's largest religious minority, Christian Copts, take up the bulk of the report.

...There are no Christians serving as presidents or deans of public universities, and they are rarely nominated by the Government to run in elections as National Democratic Party (NDP) candidates. Christians, who represent between 8 and 12 percent of the population, hold less than 2 percent of the seats in the People's Assembly and Shoura Council," the report says.

Christians continued to experience problems in obtaining the official permission necessary to construct and repair churches, with security forces blocking the use of permits that had already been issued or denying permits altogether. These delays can last for years.

Will Europe listen to Pope Benedict's plea on their Christian heritage

Pope Benedict urged Europeans not to sweep away their Christian heritage:

"...Europe, he said, would be spiritually defeated if it convinced itself that God had no role in modern life.

"To seek God and to let oneself be found by him - that is today no less necessary than in former times," he said in a long address to intellectuals and artists.

"What gave Europe's culture its foundation - the search for God and the readiness to listen to him -- remains today the basis of any genuine culture," he said in fluent French.

Forgetting this would be unreasonable and raise the risk that Europe could fall prey to the two extremes of "subjective arbitrariness and fundamentalist fanaticism", he declared..."

Yale interfaith conference: Palestinian chief justice blames Israel

There was an interfaith conference at Yale University a few days ago.  One of the participants, Palestinian chief justice Shaykh Tayseer Rajab Al-Tamimi, blamed Israeli rabbis for giving approval for violence against Palestinians.  The stunned audience said nothing.  This man used the very rulings Islamic scholars have issued to support violence against Israel, including martyrdom.  He appears to have twisted the truth here.  It's a classic move of Islamists.

Are you aware there is nothing written in the Quran about Palestine or Jerusalem?  Nothing.  Their holy book, which they claim are the exact words of Allah, actually references the biblically writings about the Children of Israel and their right to their land.  Yet Muslims claim it belongs to the Palestinians.  Go figure.

THE QUR'AN SAYS:

"To Moses We [Allah] gave nine clear signs. Ask the Israelites how he [Moses] first appeared amongst them. Pharoah said to him: 'Moses, I can see that you are bewitched.' 'You know full well,' he [Moses] replied, 'that none but the Lord of the heavens and the earth has revealed these visible signs. Pharoah, you are doomed.'"

"Pharoah sought to scare them [the Israelites] out of the land [of Israel]: but We [Allah] drowned him [Pharoah] together with all who were with him. Then We [Allah] said to the Israelites: 'Dwell in this land [the Land of Israel]. When the promise of the hereafter [End of Days] comes to be fulfilled, We [Allah] shall assemble you [the Israelites] all together [in the Land of Israel]."

"We [Allah] have revealed the Qur'an with the truth, and with the truth it has come down. We have sent you [Muhammed] forth only to proclaim good news and to give warning."

[Qur'an, "Night Journey," chapter 17:100-104]

These interfaith conferences are mostly a joke.  While most of the discussions are about fluffy sweet talk, it fails to discuss the Islamic march towards global rule.  I find it troubling Islamic scholars from Muslimc countries come here to visit or to live and speak to us of a version of Islam that is most certainly not practiced from where they came.  There are no facts that support their version of Islam.  None.

Keep in mind, nothing would please Islamists more than having everyone leaving these conferences speaking only of the peace and love of Islam.  It will help make Islamists jobs that much easier down the road.

Participants at these conferences should question Muslims why Islam isn't practiced in one Islamic country the way they portray it to us in America. We need some accountability here.  But first,  be sure to study up on how Islamic countries rule over their citizens and treat other religions, according to Sharia Law.  And if they respond to those hard questions that it's a cultural tradition not Islam.  Keep in mid, the culture is Islam.  This is the hard cold reality that must be confronted.

Prince Ghazi said that Muslim leaders reached out to the Christian world because of its size and influence, but that other religions are welcome to join the dialogue. Several Jewish leaders are observing the conference at Yale, and Rabbi Douglas Krantz of Congregation B'nai Yisrael of Armonk is expected to take part in a closing panel tomorrow.

"These are people who have differences - and they're talking," Krantz said yesterday. "That is significant. And everyone is not necessarily agreeing on everything."

The participants, Krantz said, were showing great civility and respect for one another.

"We all had lunch together today and nobody used their knives - except to eat a meal," he said, smiling. "These are not trivial matters."

Toward the end of the day, the Palestinian chief justice, Shaykh Tayseer Rajab Al-Tamimi, made one of the day's few overtly political statements when he accused Israeli rabbis of giving religious approval to violence against Palestinians. He called Jerusalem the "scene of the most horrible genocide and ethnic cleansing."

He criticized those who use religion to "achieve their own interests, political interests or expansionist interests."  What?   Isn't this called diversion?

No one in the audience commented on Al-Tamimi's statement.

Christians evacuated from school in Indonesia

Here's another report about the religion of peace which involves the Muslim Brotherhood in Indonesia - the largest Muslim-majority country on earth.  In a different story a Christian teacher was killed in front of his family near Jarkarta:

Police evacuated the Christian Theological Arastamar Institute (STT SETIA) which is located in an eastern district of the Indonesian capital after it suffered damages during clashes between Christians and Muslims over the week-end. At least 1,500 students were moved to nearby police headquarters and a local Christian-based political party.

...Last night hundreds of residents from the village of Kampung Pulo had taken up arms threatening to storm the school after being instigated by an imam at a local mosque who claimed that a bunch of Christian gangsters were coming to “protect” the school after it was attacked on Saturday by a Muslim mob, causing damage to the building and hurting hundreds.

In an attempt to solve the problem East Jakarta District Chief Murdani held a close door meeting with the warring parties to discuss the issue. At the same time though, he said that police would conduct a thorough investigation and check if the school’s legal status was in order and that it respected all building regulations. In case of violations he would issue orders to demolish the unlawful structures.

...The violence and charges against SETIA are the work of Risman Hadi, chairman of Muslim Brotherhood Forum of Kampung Pulo Village, who in the past opposed the opening and continued existence of the Christian institute.

The Codex Sinatucus - is it the oldest Bible known?

What may be the oldest Bible will soon be on display online.  It will contain more scanned pages in phases; November 2008 and July 2009:

Codex Sinaiticus is one of the most important books in the world. Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of outstanding importance for the history of the Bible and the manuscript – the oldest substantial book to survive Antiquity – is of supreme importance for the history of the book.

According to one report this copy contains no reference to the resurection of Jesus.  But is it authentic?  Who is behind this project?  Was it an attempt to rewrite the Bible?  It should be interesting to follow.

...However, the bible is likely to cause some controversy as it contains no mention of the resurrection of Jesus. Instead the disciples enter Jesus's tomb, find it empty and leave in fear.

The Codex Sinaiticus was written over 1,600 years ago in Greek, and analysis of the pages shows that it has been heavily amended over the centuries.

The copy only covers part of the New Testament and contains books not found in the current Christian bible, such as the Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas.

Muslim World League accused of changing recommendations of Interfaith Dialogue

Finally, after looking for several hours over the course of a few days, I found the recommendations issued after the Interfaith Dialogue Conference in Spain.  It appears this conference was indeed a sham designed to put the Saudi's in charge of future religious dialogue discussions at the UN.  Also plaguing this conference are charges the Muslim World League changed the final declarations from what the draft committee approved:

"...that the conference ended on a sour note as Christian and Jewish participants complained that the organizers, the Muslim World League, had too much control over the conference's closing communiqué. The document appeared to have been revised without the consent of members of a drafting committee."

The Saudi's were also quite defensive why churches are not allowed to be built in their country claiming it was sacred Muslim land.  The final recommendations calls for the Muslim World League, an organization accused of terror ties,  to decide who takes part in the UN session of interfaith dialogue, if adopted:

Calling upon the UN General Assembly to support the results reached by this conference. It is strongly recommended to make use of these recommendations in enhancing dialogue among the followers of religions, civilizations and cultures through conducting a special UN session on dialogue.

The participants express their hope that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud will use his good offices with the concerned bodies in convening this session as soon as possible. It will be the pleasure of the members of this conference to take part in that session through a representative delegation, members of which are to be chosen by the Muslim World League.

Saudi's interfaith conference seeks UN oversight over all religious dialogue!!

One participant at the Saudi-backed interfaith dialogue that took place in Spain this week presented a draft resolution for the UN to oversee all religious dialogue, including local and regional talks!  If this happens it will eventually mean no one will be able to bring up troubling aspect of Islam or discuss Islamism and its goal of Islamic rule or discuss honor killings or Islamic terrorism and so on because these discussions would be ruled insulting to Islam:

The World Conference on Dialogue opened by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in Madrid on Wednesday gathered momentum yesterday with a call from the former speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, Congressman Jose de Venecia Jr., for an interfaith dialogue council to be set up as a formal UN body.

He presented a draft resolution calling on the conference to petition King Abdullah, King Juan Carlos of Spain and Spanish Premier Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to organize a joint Saudi-Spanish request to the UN for an Interfaith Council to promote and oversee “all global, regional and local interfaith dialogues among the great religions, civilizations, cultures, governments… to help resolve politico-religious, sectarian and ethnic conflicts and tensions in various parts of the world.”  arab news

This is exactly what Islamists wanted to happen.  It is far more palatable when the proposal was bought forth by someone outside of Islam such as de Venecia. If Islamists can get religious leaders to buy into being overseen by the U.N in all their religious discussions then that's just one more step to bring the world under UN rule.  This is the likely international body where the Islamic world wants to instill their caliphate on the world!   I actually read this is the goal on a website of a Islamic center in America!

Will this proposal be presented to the U.N.?  I think it will.  Will the U.N. act upon it?  Remember the Islamic world was successful recently when they shut down any future criticsm of Islam in the U.N.'s human rights council.  Now, only Islamic scholars are allowed to Islam at this council!

This is Islamic trickery at its best.  It's dangerous for all religions and for free speech we so cherish in America since it is all presented under the guise of interfaith dialogue.

Something the Saudi's will not allow their own citizens to do.

Update 7/21/08:  Muhammad bin Ahmed Tayeb, director general of the Foreign Ministry’s regional office, has called upon the United Nations to adopt the resolutions taken by last week’s interfaith conference in Madrid as working plans for its various organizations.

He said the World Conference on Dialogue in the Spanish capital which was called by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, was a big success in terms of the large-scale participation of the leaders of different faiths, and the important resolutions it passed.  Arab News

Update 7/21/08:  ,,,the conference ended on a sour note as Christian and Jewish participants complained that the organizers, the Muslim World League, had too much control over the conference's closing communiqué. The document appeared to have been revised without the consent of members of a drafting committee. And the vast majority of participants never had a chance to review any version of the statement before Abdul Rahman Al-Zaid of the Muslim World League read it aloud. "For us as participants from other religions this is not an acceptable procedure for adopting documents," a Russian Orthodox priest participating in the conference, George Ryabykh, said.

Even Rabbi Michael Lerner, who was positive about the conference overall, conceded in an e-mail that "The Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, and others who were in attendance here were props" and that though there were some women in attendance, they were essentially excluded from the dialogue. For all the oil money the Saudis have, the Madrid conference underscores the difficulty they will have in buying legitimacy in America or among the other world religions.  New York Sun

Update 7/23/08The Madrid Declaration:  Everyone must be told to respect religion and follow our guidlines for religious dialogue

...5. Respecting heavenly religions, preserving their high status, condemning any insult to their symbols, and combating the exploitation of religion in the instigation of racial discrimination.

7. The significance of  religion and moral values and the need for humans to revert to their Creator in their fight against crime, corruption, drugs, and terrorism, and in preserving the institution of the family and protecting societies from deviant behaviors.

Based on the above, the conference has adopted the following recommendations:

To reject theories that call for the clash of civilizations and cultures and to warn of the danger of campaigns seeking to deepen conflicts and destabilize peace and security.
• To enhance common human values, to cooperate in their dissemination within societies and to solve the problems that hinder their achievement.
• To disseminate the culture of tolerance and understanding through dialogue so as to be a framework for international relations through holding conferences and symposia, as well as developing relevant cultural, educational and media programs.
• To agree on international guidelines for dialogue among the followers of religions and cultures through which moral values and ethical principles, which are common denominators among such followers, so as to strengthen stability and achieve prosperity for all humans.
• To work on urging governmental and non-governmental organizations to issue a document that stipulates respect for religions and their symbols, the prohibition of their denigration and the repudiation of those who commit such acts.

Update 7/29/08:  The Organization of Islamic Conference had this to say about the interfaith meeting:

The Secretary General of the OIC, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu today hailed the outcome of the three day World Conference on Dialogue among religions held in Madrid and paid tribute to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud for initiating the Conference.

The OIC Secretary General stated that the Conference was successful in raising awareness of the dangers of the growing intolerance of religious faiths and highlighting cooperation and understanding among diverse religious faiths. He stated that the declaration issued at the end of the Madrid Conference had sent strong message to the international community to uphold respect for the diversity of religions and condemning any insult to their symbols and to combat the exploitation of religion in the instigation of racial discrimination.

King Abdullah's interfaith conference conflicts with reality in Saudi Arabia

Today is the first day of the Saudi arranged interfaith dialogue conference in Spain  This was the brainchild of Saudi's King Abdullah.  It's rather hypocritical that Saudi Arabia is taking the led here, isn't it?  This is a country that does not allow open worship for Christians, or any churches and, most importantly, religious freedom for its people.   This is a country, which is the birthplace of Islam, and it forces its people to be Muslims by making it near impossible to change one's religion!

So let me see if I got this right.  At this conference,  they are extending dialogue to the very religious groups they surpress in their own country! This obvious conflict leaves the world no choice but to view this conference with serious skepticism. It doesn't make any sense.

The Council of American Islamic Relations, an outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas infrastructure in American, calls this a groundbreaking event.

When you dig deeper another troubling aspect emerges.  The chief organizer of the conference, the World Muslim League, is apparently connected to terrorism.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism (www.investigativeproject.org ) exclusively reveals today that a major international interfaith conference set to start Wednesday in Madrid was organized by an alleged associate of a senior Al Qaeda financier and vocal supporter of Palestinian suicide bombings - Abdullah al-Turki. The conference is sponsored by the Muslim World League (MWL), which al-Turki heads.

Earlier I also wrote about the Muslim World League and their shady past.

Forgive me, but in that post, I could not over-look a statement made by the king at their preparatory meeting for the conference.  He said the world must be made to accommodate Islam.  His speech is posted on the Saudi Arabia Embassy website:

...For this reason, this invitation from your brother is to counter challenges of rigidity, ignorance, narrow-mindedness, and to make the world accommodate the concepts and the prospects of the kind message of Islam without enmity and antagonism..."

---part of King Abdullah's statement  on interfaith goals

I suspect the ultimate goal of this so-called interfaith meeting is to get a consensus from the group to agree that criticism of Islam or any religion should be forbidden.  Once they can get many of the world's religious leaders to buy-into this then one component of an eventual Islamic caliphate has been achieved.

No religion should ever be above criticism.  Especially one whose history is full of violent conquests to expand and place people under a growing Islamic state where religious freedom is stopped.

The King previously announced plans to turn over the recommendations to the U.N.

Am I too skeptical?

Update 7/18/08:  Saudi's interfaith conference seeks UN oversight over all religious dialogue!!

Update 11/13/08:   Saudi king seeks global interfaith respect (at the UN) while public practice of non-Islamic faiths in own country banned!

Interfaith dialogue proposals to be submitted to the United Nations

"...How great this nation is, how difficult the challenges it faces in a time where its enemies – extremists from its sons and others – join forces to change its fair approach. They are gathered with blatant aggressiveness to target the tolerance, justice and noble purposes of Islam.

For this reason, this invitation from your brother is to counter challenges of rigidity, ignorance, narrow-mindedness, and to make the world accommodate the concepts and the prospects of the kind message of Islam without enmity and antagonism..."

---part of King Abdullah's statement regarding the interfaith goals the Islamic nations

Did King Abdullah say they should make the world accommodate Islam without complaining?  Call me skeptical, if you will, but I get the uneasy feeling the upcoming international conference on interfaith dialogue has a hidden agenda.  I suspect the Imams and Islamic scholars with seek to gain consensus not to allow any criticism of Islam.  Oh, it won't be worded so directly but the effect will be the same.

The Islamic world has already managed to shut down any criticism of Islam in the UN Human Rights Council.  The more international bodies they can conform in this regard, the easier it will be for Islamists to go about their business of spreading Islam and laying the foundation for Islamic rule because using the words that describe this movement will be prohibited.

Do people who plan to attend this event know about the Muslim World League, the main organizer of the event?  Seriously, do they know about their connections to terrorism?

The proposals of the international interfaith conference, which will be opened by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in Madrid on July 16, will be submitted to the  United Nations for further action, informed sources said.

King Juan Carlos of Spain will address the opening session.

The proposals will be presented to the UN General Assembly in September,” one source said. “There is a possibility that this will become an annual forum.”

Abdullah Al- Turki, secretary-general of the Muslim World League, the main organizer of the conference, said the three-day event would focus on common values of different communities and explore ways to achieve peaceful coexistence, understanding and cooperation.

The conference will try to isolate those forces that try to promote hatred and create conflicts,” Al-Turki told the Saudi Press Agency yesterday before leaving for Madrid at the head of an MWL delegation. “By holding this major gathering of religions, ideologies and civilizations, the MWL wants to emphasize the importance of religion for humanity.”

Ancient church in Jordan could be the oldest

Christianity was born in the Middle East, right? Unfortunately, Christians were largely driven out as Islam became the law of the land which should serve as a wake up call to what is happened in the world today:

Archaeologists in Jordan said Monday they have discovered a cave underneath one of the world's oldest churches that may have once been an even more ancient site of Christian worship.

Archaeologist Abdel-Qader Hussein, head of the Rihab Center for Archaeological Studies, says the cave was unearthed in the northern Jordanian city of Rihab after three months of excavation and shows evidence of early Christian rituals.

The cave lies under St. Georgeous church, built in 230 A.D., making it one of the oldest churches in the world, along with one unearthed in the Jordanian southern port of Aqaba in 1998 and another in Israel discovered in 2005.

Hussein said there was evidence that the underground cave was used as a church by 70 disciples of Jesus in the first century after Christ's death, which would make it the oldest Christian site of worship in the world.

He described a circular worship area with stone seats separated from a living area that had a long tunnel leading to a source of water. He said the early Christians hid there from persecution.

A mosaic inscription on the floor of the later church of St. Georgeous above refers to "the 70 beloved by God and the divine" who founded the worship there.

Thomas Parker, a historian at the University of North Carolina-Raleigh, who led the discovery of the church in Aqaba, said that while he hadn't seen the Rihab site, any such claim should be taken with a degree of caution.

"An extraordinary claim like this requires extraordinary evidence," he said. "We need to see the artifacts and dating evidence to suggest such an occupation in the 1st century A.D."

Church of England: Government discriminates against Christian Churches

A scathing Church of England report highlights a potentially serious problem in England:

The policies of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have helped to generate a spiritual, civic and economic crisis in Britain, according to an important Church of England report.

Labour is failing society and lacks the vision to restore a sense of British identity, the report says in the Church’s strongest attack on the Government for decades. It accuses the Government of “deep religious illiteracy” and of having “no convincing moral direction”.

The report, commissioned for the Church of England and to be published on Monday, accuses the Government of discriminating against the Christian Churches in favour of other faiths, including Islam. It calls for the appointment of a “Minister for Religion”, who would act as the Prime Minister’s personal “faith envoy” and who would recognise the contribution of faith communities to Britain across every government department.

The 180-page report, seen by The Times, describes the Government as moral, but lacking a “compass” and reflects an attempt by the Church to carve out an effective role for itself in the 21st century as a provider of welfare for young and old.

Christian Freedom International Condemns Persecution of Michigan Wrestling Coach

FYI:

Christian Freedom International, a Michigan-based organization that assists persecuted Christians around the world, is expressing outrage over a disturbing incident of persecution that has taken place right in its own backyard.

Jerry Marszalek, a longtime wrestling coach at Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan, was recently released from his job amid complaints that Trey Hancock, his former coaching assistant and an evangelical Christian pastor, was using his position on the wrestling team to convert Muslim students into Christians. Imad Fadlallah, the first Muslim principal at Fordson—a high school where over 80% of its students are of Arab descent—made the decision not to renew Marszalek's contract, claiming that he had the right to terminate his service because Marszalek was an "at-will" employee. The announcement was praised by hundreds of Muslim parents, students and religious leaders, who attended a school board meeting in unanimous support of the decision.

Hancock denies the allegations, insisting that he never witnessed or preached while coaching at Fordson. Although Hancock was known to have baptized a Muslim student from Dearborn in 2005, it was an activity that was not performed during school hours. After the 2005 baptism, Marszalek was warned by Fadlallah to keep Hancock away from all wrestling practices and events, despite the fact that Hancock's son, Paul, was a member of the team.

According to a report by the American Psychiatric Association, Michigan is home to the second largest Muslim community outside of the Middle East; according to the same report, Islam is currently the fastest-growing religion in the United States. In 2005, the Islamic Center of America constructed a $14 million, gold-domed mosque in Dearborn, making the 70,000 square-foot facility the spiritual home for thousands of Detroit's Muslim residents and the largest mosque in the United States.

Marine accused of proselytizing in Iraq

FYI:

At the western entrance to the Iraqi city of Fallujah on Tuesday, Muamar Anad handed his residence badge to the U.S. Marines guarding the city. They checked to be sure he was a city resident, and when they were done, Anad said, a Marine slipped a coin out of his pocket and put it in his hand.

Out of fear, he accepted it, Anad said. When he was inside the city, the college student said, he looked at one side of the coin. "Where will you spend eternity?" it asked.

He flipped it over, and on the other side it read, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16."

"They are trying to convert us to Christianity," said Anad, a Sunni Muslim like most residents of this city in Anbar province. At home, he told his story, and his relatives echoed their disapproval: They'd been given the coins, too, he said.

"Iraq is investigating a report that U.S. military personnel in Fallujah handed-out material that is religious and evangelical in nature," said Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, a U.S. military spokesman, in a statement e-mailed to McClatchy Newspapers. "Local commanders are investigating since the military prohibits proselytizing any religion, faith or practices."

Fallujah, the scene of a bloody U.S. offensive against Sunni insurgents in 2004, has calmed and grown less hostile to U.S. troops since residents turned against al-Qaida in Iraq.

Now residents of the city are abuzz that some Americans who they consider occupiers are also acting as Christian missionaries. Residents said some Marines at the western entrance to their city have been passing out the coins for two days in what they call a "humiliating" attempt to convert them to Christianity.

The National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer, is a tradition to honor all faiths which is observed the first Thursday of May.  The National Day of Prayer Task Force, a private effort, is a non-governmental organization created to help coordinate events for evangelical Christians for this event.  This hasn't gone over well with one Muslim organization.

The Council of American Islamic Relations, the American mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas, has issued an Action Alert calling on people to contact their governors and other elected officials claiming the National Day of Prayer excludes non Judeo-Christians.

CAIR, in partnership with Jews On First, is calling on American Muslims and members of other faith communities to contact governors and other elected officials nationwide to ask that any government-sponsored "National Day of Prayer" observances on May 1st be representative of our nation's religious diversity.

Here's the statement from the National Day of Prayer for non Judeo-Christians:

The National Day of Prayer Task Force was a creation of the National Prayer Committee for the expressed purpose of organizing and promoting prayer observances conforming to a Judeo-Christian system of values. People with other theological and philosophical views are, of course, free to organize and participate in activities that are consistent with their own beliefs.

On their application to be a coordinator it states:

Statement of Belief:

I believe that the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of The Living God. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only One by which I can obtain salvation and have an ongoing relationship with God. I believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his miracles, the atoning work of his shed blood, his resurrection and ascension, his intercession and his coming return to power and glory. I believe that those who follow Jesus are family and there should be unity among all who claim his name.

CAIR's Action Alert is another example how Islamic forces are trying to gain entry into the Christian majority foothold in America for inclusion.  The effort by the the private task force serves as a coordinator for the very large Chrisitian presence in America.  Muslims should respect this fact rather than complain.

If you get an chance, let your governor and federal representatives know how much you support the efforts of a private task force to coordinator Christian participation on the National Day of Prayer.  They shouldn't be faulted for it.

Pope will pray for redemption of Islamic terrorists at Ground Zero

I pray for the safety and success of the Pope's visit to America next week.  He will pray for terrorists to leave their hate-filled ideology behind and become Christians during a prayer at Ground Zero. That'll rile some Islamists - but the world has to hit hard against these people who want to destroy our way of life. He will also bless the site:

The Pope will pray for the redemption of Islamic terrorists when he visits the site of the September 11 attacks in New York next week.

The pontiff will call for terrorists to convert to Christianity, saying: "Turn to Your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred.

"God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy, we seek your light and guidance".

...He will visit Ground Zero on April 20 and the prayer is expected to be the emotional high-point of his tour.

The Pope will also ask for "eternal light and peace to all who died" in the tragedy. His prayer will remember "the heroic first-responders: our firefighters, police officers, emergency service workers… along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy".

...The Pope will conclude: "Bring Your peace to our violent world: peace in the hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the earth." He will then sprinkle the crater with holy water and bless the site.

Why is Palestine not mentioned in the Bible or the Quran?

In the Rocky Mountain News today there was a very one-sided opinion piece written about Palestine.  I had to add my two-cents in a comment below the article.  I'm quite sure it will not get posted so I added it below:

It is important to know that Palestine is not mentioned in the Bible or the Quran, at all. Why?  Because it didn't exist until sometime during the Islamic Ottoman Empire which expanded their Islamic rule into that region. This empire collapsed and gave the outside world opportunities to right some wrongs.

Israel, on the other hand, is mentioned in the Bible and the Quran.  Their right to their land is also mentioned in both books. To ignore this is quite disrespectful.

Most Christian Americans support Israel out of their biblical obligation.  Do not underestimate this obligation as it runs very deep.  Christians make up roughly 85% or so of this fine and beautiful country.

In 1948, when the UN created a two state solution it was the Middle East who refused to recognize Israel's right to land and to also create a separate state for Palestine, at the same time.  Let me say it again, the Middle East refused to create a separate state for the Palestine people.  They have lived in a poor state of existence as a result.  But it is not Israel's fault.  This is solely the Middle East's fault for failing to recognizing Israel's right to exist.

It is the Middle East who does not respect our biblical text and the Children of Israel.  They also are ignoring the Quranic text that supports Israel and their land.

It is the nature of the Islamic world to seek to rule over that what is sacred to Christians and the Jewish people and all religions, for that matter.  Islam claims to be the final religion,  Jesus is not the son of God, and the Jewish people are wrong.  The Islamic world only see events through Islamic eyes - to the exclusion of all others.  There is no room for compromise with these two great religions and their land of origin that far pre-dates Islam, unless they, the Muslims, are in control over them and their land.

You need to do more homework here.

Shame on you.

Update:  April 16:  I just checked and as I suspected by comment was not added to the article.

Americans support Israel out of biblical obligation

The Middle East and many American Muslims like to blame the Jewish lobby for America's support for Israel.  But our support for Israel goes much, much deeply:

Most American Christians – regardless of their denomination and background – say they feel a "moral and biblical obligation" to support the State of Israel, according to a new survey conducted by a D.C.-based evangelical organization.

According to the survey, evangelical Christians were the most supportive of Israeli causes; nearly 90 percent said they felt a “moral and biblical obligation” to back Israel, and 62 percent said that Israel alone should posses control of Jerusalem.

Evangelical Christians also had the largest number of respondents who said they opposed a Palestinian state, believing it would give rise to terrorism.

Non-evangelical Protestants and Catholics were also revealed to be very pro-Israel, though their support was slightly lower.

Eighty-four percent of Protestants and 76 percent of Catholics said they felt a “biblical obligation” to support Israel, the survey results revealed.

A majority of Protestants also said they agreed that Jerusalem should remain Israel’s undisputed capitol, while a lower but still high number of Catholics agreed.

Iran-Vatican Joint Commission formed

Interesting, very interesting:

Tehran: Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Borujerdi said on Wednesday that the anti religious and anti-Islamic moves in certain Western countries are intolerable and regarded as deviation from right path.

Borujerdi made the remark in a meeting with new Vatican Ambassador to Tehran Jean Paul Gobel.

Recent sacrilegious moves have hurt feelings of Muslims, he said, adding that it is incumbent upon the European countries and Vatican to seriously deal with the issue.

Anti-Islamic and religious moves in western societies should be stopped, he said. Vatican ambassador, for his part, strongly condemned defamation of divine religions mainly Islam in certain western countries and said freedom should not be misused to insult religious sanctities or bothering others.

“We should stand shoulder to shoulder in defending sacred values,” he underlined.

He also called formation of Iran-Vatican Joint Commission as a significant development.

California student sues teacher for anti-Christian remarks

Well, it doesn't really surprise anyone this took place in California, does it?

A federal lawsuit has been filed against a California teacher for alleged anti-Christian remarks made during classroom lectures.

Sixteen-year-old Chad Farnan is accusing Capistrano Valley High school history teacher James Corbett of making numerous anti-Christian remarks. Farnan claims that while recording class lectures for note-taking purposes, he recorded Corbett stating that "Jesus glasses" obscure the truth and that Christians are more likely to commit rape and murder.

Corbett claims his remarks a
