Last week, a plane with a possible dangerous package was escorted by military jets to New York City as news that two other likely dangerous packages were found in the UK and Dubai. Now, think for a minute. Does it make any kind of sense a plane would be allowed to land in one of the most populated cities in America and then be escorted to the gate by police? To the GATE! This defies basic public safety 101.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) introduced a new English language magazine (Critical Threats website) on Sunday. In their first issue, American born cleric and partner Anwar al-Awlaki issued a fatwa against a Seattle cartoonist and others.
The magazine includes instructions on bomb-making from ingredients from "mom's kitchen". Al-Qaeda leader AQAP Nasser al Wahayshi, also known as Abu Basir, called on Muslims to pursue violent jihad against the West.
O Muslims, rise up in defense of your Messenger: a man with his knife, a man with his gun, a man with his rifle, a man with his bomb, by learning how to design explosive devices, by burning down forests and buildings, or by running over them with your cars and trucks. The means of harming them are many so seek assistance from Allah and do not be weak and you will find a way. The rights of the Messenger of Allah upon us are great and it is nothing for all of us to die for his sake; may our mothers be bereaved of us if we do not defend him.
O Muslims you have no excuse in front of Allah except if you fight in defense of his Messenger…
The purpose of the magazine appears to provide tools and encourage jihadists to take matters in their own hands right here in America rather than risk travel over to Yemen for training.
I found the above graphic of the Al Qaeda magizene from a blogby American graduate student, Christopher Anzalone, in theDepartment of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at Indiana University. This "student" also has the first edition of the al Qaeda magazine, which I found very difficult to find. He links to the Muslim Brotherhood website and hadiths on violent jihad and so on. Hummm...
I missed an article from ABC News dated January 22, 2010 that warned of female suicide bombers who may try to enter the United States.
Unrelated to this specific warning, a woman, already here, was arrested after authorities found an explosive device in a vehicle this past Saturday in Arlington, Texas. She had been of interest to federal authorities, for a while:
Kimberly "Asma" Al-Homsi, who has repeatedly been the subject of interest by federal anti-terrorism authorities, is expected to face a federal explosives charge after the latest incident in Arlingtonon Saturday.
...Al-Homsi, 45, and Yasinul Alan Ansari, 18, both remain in the Arlington city jail. Bail has been set at $210,000 for Al-Homsi and $100,000 for Ansari.
ATF Dallas spokesman Thomas Crowley said Sunday that officials plan to file a complaint on the pair in federal court in Fort Worth on Tuesday. "It's an ongoing federal investigation," he said. "We can't put out any description [of the device] until after the complaint is filed."
Police closed Loop 820 at Rosedale for nearly seven hours while they investigated. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. The road reopened about midnight.
Al-Homsi has also claimed a friendship with Wadih el Hage, a former Arlington resident and former personal secretary of al-Qaedaleader Osama bin Laden. He received a life sentence for his part in a bombing conspiracy. ..
She drew attention from officials in 2007 when she and another woman surveyed Love Field. This article stated she was on the "no fly" list and Al Hornsi claimed to be Syrian who doesn't like our government.
The Department of Homeland Security moved Thursday to increase random checks for explosives at American airports after officials cited a heightened concern over possible terror plots against the aviation system.
...“We must remain vigilant about the continued threat we face” from Al Qaeda, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. “We are facing a determined enemy and we appreciate the patience of all Americans and visitors to our country, and the cooperation of our international partners as well as a committed airline industry.”
CNN, Reuters and other news sources are reporting following the underwear bomber attack on Christmas Day they have uncovered relevant information relating to aviation and Al Qaeda.
First, there is a fleet of rogue jet aircraft criss-crossing the Atlantic Ocean that a senior White House official had warned about in 2008 but may not have been followed up on.
...The report, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters, was ignored, and the problem has since escalated into what security officials in several countries describe as a global security threat.
The clandestine fleet has grown to include twin-engine turboprops, executive jets and retired Boeing 727s that are flying multi-ton loads of cocaine and possibly weaponsto an area in Africa where factions of al Qaeda are believed to be facilitating the smuggling of drugs to Europe, the officials say.
...An examination of documents and interviews with officials in the United States and three West African nations suggest that at least 10 aircraft have been discovered using this air route since 2006. Officials warn that many of these aircraft were detected purely by chance. They caution that the real number involved in the networks is likely considerably higher.
This report went on to say the connection directly to Al-Qaeda was unclear at the time of the report. The report should have risen up to a higher level since bad guys and possibly terrorists have their own fleet of jets. One cannot underestimate the capacity of one of these planes to hold or become a weapon of mass destruction and al Qaeda's desire to attack us again.
Unrelated to the illegal jet fleet, four unnamed officials told CNN yesterday there is a credible threat regarding Al Qaeda in Yemen and aviation. One said: "The U.S. has some information about time frame, this source continued, saying, "It is more definitive than it usually is."" Another official said the threat was measurable. Another official said the threat is fairly general in nature.
Meanwhile, 150 Yemini clerics and leaders meet today and have threatened jihad if any foreign troops enter Yemen to fight Al Qaeda. It was presided over by Sheikh Abdul-Majeed al-Zindani:
...Addressing a press conference, al-Zindani said: "If any party insists on aggression, or invades the country, then according to Islam, Jihad (holy war) becomes obligatory." He is also believed to be a spiritual leader to terror mastermind Osama bin Laden.
Al-Zindani is wanted in the U.S. on terrorism charges.
Obviously, these clerics are aiding Al-Qaeda now and have severely tainted the image of Islam to the world.
Najibullah Zazi will be arraigned today in federal court in Brooklyn, New York under high security. Documents state three other accomplishes helped Zazi buy ingredients from local beauty stores in Aurora, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, that could be used to build bombs.
Zazi is believed to be in the center of an al-Qaeda plot that was to kill many Americans.
A 19-year-old year-old Muslim by the name of Hosam Maher Husein Smadi was arrested today for planting what he thought was a car bomb near Fountain Place, a tall building in downtown Dallas:
The FBI says agents arrested Smadi after he placed what he thought was a bomb at the base of Fountain Place, a 60-story skyscraper located at 1445 Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas.
The FBI says undercover agents found out about Smadi's intent to commit violent attacks in Dallas. The FBI says agents tried to get him to change his mind about committing the attacks, but were unsuccessful.
...Agents say they arrested Smadi Thursday afternoon after he placed the dummy car bomb next to the building. The FBI says the public was never in any danger.
Update 1:18 PM CT:Documents allege Zazi and others purchased bomb-making ingredients from beauty supply stores and looked for help making explosives. See DOJ memo page 5 and 6: ...Zazi purchased six bottles of "Liquid Developer Clairoxide" from a beauty supply store in Aurora. This product contains high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide...August 28, 2009 Zazi purchased 12 32-oz bottles of "Ms. K Liquid 40 Volume" - another hydrogen peroxide based product - from the same store...More purchases are listed in the memo.
The problem with these terrorists is that the FBI doesn't know what they don't know.
The reports states on page 8 at the bottom:DHS/I&A assesses that lone wolves and small terrorist cells embracing violent rightwing extremist ideology are the most dangerous domestic terrorism threat in the United States.
Note: the FBI has never issued a terrorist warning for a right wing extemists plot, that I aware.
Another bulletin was sent by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI on Friday and apparently on Monday repeating recent warnings to be on high alert in mass transit facilities. Hydrogen-peroxide explosives is the likely weapon. The warning is precautionary.
"...Local officials in Washington said the notice specifically mentioned Grand Central Station in New York City, but said they nevertheless increased the number of random patrols being conducted. Because there was no specific threat for this region, officials said, the patrols stopped short of passenger bag checks.
In Denver, a federal judge followed the recommendation of Justice Department prosecutors Monday and refused to release Najibullah Zazi, a permanent U.S. resident, who allegedly told federal agents that he had received weapons and explosives training in a conflict-laden region of Pakistan with ties to al-Qaeda. Zazi was pulled over earlier this month while driving on the George Washington Bridge in New York, where FBI agents say they uncovered a handwritten recipe for making and handling explosives in a file stored on his laptop computer.
...Counterterrorism experts said U.S. officials were taking the case "very seriously" because of the apparent similarities to recent plots in the United Kingdom linked to al-Qaeda.
The investigation is on-going.
Update 1:08 PM: Two bulletins were sent Monday to local authorities nationwide, with federal officials saying they know of no specific plots against such sites. The warnings — the latest in a flurry circulated as authorities investigate a possible bomb plot in Denver and New York City — say those sites remain attractive targets to groups like Al Qaeda...The directives came after a similar bulletin about the vulnerabilities of mass transit systems was sent out Friday...The bulletin on stadiums notes that an Al Qaeda training manual specifically lists "blasting and destroying the places of amusement, immorality, and sin... and attacking vital economic centers" as desired targets of the global terror network."
That three national security alerts since Friday.
Meanwhile, CAIR is pleased they have stopped the documentary 'Obsession' from being shown in a high school - claiming it is anti-Islam. This film basically uses Muslims own words and actions to demonstrate this very real and on-going threat from the unlimited supply of jihadists who seek to martyrdom themself for the sake of Islam or to please Allah. Once again, CAIR, a Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas minion, has successfully imposed Sharia Law in the United States to stop a film that warns of the danger of jihadists. This was to take place at Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
Islamic terror suspect Najibullah Zazi, along with his father, Mohammed Wali Zazi, and a third Muslim, Imam Ahmad Wais Afzali, of Queens, New York were arrested Saturday night for lying to investigators in an on-going terror probe that may have involved plans to set off bombs within the United States, probably in New York City. Afzali was an FBI informant who tipped Zazi's father about the investigation. Najibullah refused a 4th day of FBI questioning last Friday.
"...According to affidavits, on Sept. 11, 2009, defendant Mohammed Zazi placed a call to Afzali which lasted approximately 20 minutes. That same day, the FBI lawfully intercepted a phone conversation between Mohammed Zazi and his son, Najibullah Zazi. An affidavit alleges that, during the conversation, Mohammed Zazi told his son that he had spoken to Afzali who had informed him about being visited by law enforcement and shown photographs. Mohammed Zazi told his son that Afzali would call him and he advised his son to speak with Afzali "before anything else," according to affidavits.
In the midst of this phone call, Najibullah Zazi allegedly received a call from Afzali, who discussed his meeting with law enforcement the day before. According to a draft summary of the transcription, Afzali allegedly stated: "I was exposed to something yesterday from law enforcement. And they came to ask me about your characters." Afzali also allegedly asked Najibullah Zazi about his last trip to Pakistan and added, "Listen, our phone call is being monitored."
According to the affidavits, in another legally intercepted phone conversation on Sept. 11, 2009, Najibullah Zazi told Afzali that his car had been stolen and that he feared he was being "watched." Afzali allegedly asked if there was any "evidence in his car," and Najibullah Zazi said no.
The New York Daily reports that police sources said probers still have up to eight suspects in New York and several in Denver under watch. The Daily claims this is the first al-Qaeda cell since 9/11 but I am not sure this is accurate.
Toledo Terror Cell (Northern District of Ohio) -- In June 2008, Mohammad Amawi, Marwan El-Hindi and Wassim Mazloum were convicted of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts against Americans overseas, including U.S. armed forces in Iraq, and conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. Amawi and El-Hindi were also convicted of distributing information regarding suicide bomb vests and Improvised Explosive Devices.
Christopher Paul (Southern District of Ohio) – In June 2008, Paul pleaded guilty to conspiring with members of a German terrorist cell to use a weapon of mass destruction (explosive devices) against Americans vacationing at foreign tourist resorts, against Americans in the United States, as well against U.S. embassies, diplomatic premises and military bases in Europe.
Hassan Abujihaad (District of Connecticut) – In March 2008, Abujihaad, a former member of the U.S. Navy, was convicted of providing material support to terrorists and delivering classified information on the movements of a U.S. Navy battle group to Azzam Publications, a London-based organization alleged to have provided material support to persons engaged in terrorism.
Mohammed Jabarah (Southern District of New York) – In Jan. 2008, Jabarah was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to terrorism charges stemming from his participation in a plot to bomb U.S. embassies in Singapore and the Philippines. Jabarah trained in al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and spent time with Usama bin Laden, to whom he swore an oath of allegiance.
California Prison Plot (Central District of California) – In Dec. 2007, Kevin James, who formed a radical Islamic organization while in California state prison, and two of his recruits, Levar Washington and Gregory Patterson, pleaded guilty to terrorism conspiracy charges, admitting they conspired to attack U.S. military facilities and Jewish facilities in Los Angeles.
Jose Padilla and co-defendants (Southern District of Florida) -- In Aug. 2007, a federal jury convicted Padilla, Adham Hassoun and Kifah Jayyousi of conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim individuals in a foreign country, conspiracy to provide material support, and providing material support to terrorists. Padilla was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison.
Zacarias Moussaoui (Eastern District of Virginia) -- In May 2006, Moussaoui was sentenced to six consecutive life terms after pleading guilty in April 2005 to various terrorism violations, admitting that he conspired with al Qaeda to hijack and crash planes into prominent U.S. buildings as part of the 9/11 attacks.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali (Eastern District of Virginia) – In Nov. 2005, Ali was convicted on all counts of an indictment charging him with, among other violations, providing material support to al Qaeda, conspiracy to assassinate the U.S. President, and conspiracy to commit air piracy and conspiracy to destroy aircraft. Ali was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Also, two men were arrested carrying weapons in the parking lot of the apartment complex where the Zazi's lived after hearing what they said was a gunshot over the weekend. Drinking was involved.
Denver terror suspect, Najibullah Zazi, has reportedly admitted to al-Qaeda ties:
...Zazi reportedly told officials that he had received explosives training and his possible guilty plea would be part of a deal to cooperate with the government.
Najibullah Zazi was questioned for a third day on Friday. The FBI wouldn't comment on the investigation.
FBI agents were to question Aazi's father today, a spokeswoman for the defense team said.
...An official familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press that the younger man had contact with a known al-Qaeda associate. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, would not provide details on the location or nature of the encounter..."
Still, no official word from the FBI so its premature to think this is the final word about this investigation.
The New York Daily reports today a dozen Muslim men are under constant FBI watch, including Najibullah Zazi of Aurora, Colorado. Zazi completed a 2nd day of questioning by the FBI in Denver yesterday. He was quiet with reporters on Thursday - a noticeable change from when he first was identified. Earlier this week agents carted away several boxes of documents in the search of his parents apartment.
While the interrogators focused on Zazi, authorities expanded their attention to include more potential suspects in a plot that raised concerns about the city's subway system.
When the probe began this week, five Colorado men cited as members of the cell were under a round-the-clock watch.
By yesterday, police sources said, that number had risen to as many as 12. A half-dozen were reportedly in New York, where Zazi arrived for a visit last week.
The Homeland Security Department beefed up security in the nation's airports as a result of the Colorado-based probe, a senior official disclosed yesterday.
"Even a casual observer will notice a more visible presence of uniformed officers this week in the airports," the Homeland Security Department official told the Daily News.
The FBI asked Zazi to return for a 3rd day of questioning today. I would remiss not to mention that the FBI has not issued an official statement about this terror investigation so information is fluid and could be somewhat misleading. But, this is a serious investigation that prompted a nationwide alert.
The Aurora apartment where a possible terror suspect, Najibullah Zazi, lives with his parents was searched this afternoon by the FBI as part of an on-going investigation:
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents this afternoon are searching the apartment of an Aurora airport-shuttle driver embroiled in a federal anti-terrorism investigation.
At about 2 p.m. today, four agents arrived at the apartment complex on Smoky Hill Road where 24-year-old Najibullah Zazi lives. More agents — including some with a search dog — local police cars and a white evidence-collection van later followed.
Agents were seen entering the apartment wearing white "clean suits" and purple gloves.
"The FBI has executed a search warrant. Beyond that, I can't comment," said Kathleen Wright, an FBI spokeswoman in Denver.
FBI Director Robert Mueller told Congress today he did not believe this investigation posed an imminent threat to Americans but did not elaborate.
According to CBS News 2 in New York, Zazi is suspected to be the leader of an al Qaeda cell, and was attempting to locate bomb-making materials.
UPDATE 9/17/09 7:44 AM CT: The FBI released Zazi after 8 1/2 hours of questioning last night. But he is to return again today for more questioning. His lawyer said he answered all questions but one. His uncle, whose home was also searched questioned why Zazi rented a car and drove to New York City on 9/11.
FBI counter-terrorism officials are warning police departments across the country to be on the lookout for homemade bomb material based on an on-going investigation and search in New York City conducted early Monday morning. Over the weekend a man on the FBI radar visited some people in the city. That man, as it turns out, is a cab driver who lives in Denver. 9 News there reported investigators found a document about bomb-making that belonged to the unidentified man.
Lookout for people with burn marks on their hands, face or arms; foul odors coming from a room or building; and large industrial fans or multiple window fans. The warning, obtained by The Associated Press, also said that these homemade explosive materials can be hidden in backpacks, suitcases or plastic containers.
The notice was not intended for the public, said Justice Department spokesman Richard Kolko.
Update 8:03 PM CT: According to the New York Daily, the terror probe is focusing on a Denver cell plotting an attack the size of 9/11. Hundreds of FBI agents are on the ground in Denver with 24 hour surveillance of five suspects. This report is not being reported by other news media so beware.
Update 9/16/09 7:09 AM CT:
Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan national, is pictured above is the man from Denver, who actually lives in an apartment in SE Aurora, whom the FBI has focused on. He claims he is bewildered by it all. Some reports state he was in Pakistan training with al-Qaeda but he claimed it was to visit his wife.
Zazi claims he is not a terrorist and plans to hold a press conference today, according to the New York Daily News which also reported authorities seized the rental car he drove to New York, and found documents and papers about bomb-making and bombs.
The New York Times is reporting terror investigators have raided more than one residences or locations in New York City. The Times states federal authorities are preparing to brief Congress on the raid, which is most curious and worrisome.
"...New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne confirms that searches were conducted in the borough of Queens on Monday by agents of a joint terrorism task force. He would not discuss the matter further.
Separately, federal authorities planned to brief senior lawmakers in Congress on the case later Monday.
Update 5:17 PM CT: From Bloomberg: Searches took place in the borough of Queens...Senator Patrick Leahy, Democrat of Vermont and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Senator Joseph Lieberman, the Connecticut independent who chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Maine Senator Susan Collins, the panel’s top Republican, were briefed in the Capitol by law enforcement officials today. They declined to comment when asked about the probe.
Update 7:21 PM CT: From Reuters: "...Four Bosnians -- a couple and their two adult children -- were arrested at an apartment they have shared for three years, said John Choe, an aide to City Councilman John Liu and a candidate for the seat in Queens that Liu is vacating.
Authorities also searched an apartment shared by five Afghan men, taking some of them in for questioning, said one man who was questioned.
"There was nothing imminent, and they are very good now at tracking potentially dangerous actions and this was preventive," said Charles Schumer, a U.S. Senator from New York who was among those briefed by FBI officials.
Janet Napolitano apologized today, sort of, for portions of a report titled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" dated April 7, 2009 which was leaked this week days before national tea parties were held all across the country.
"Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Thursday she was sorry U.S. veterans were mentioned in a report on right-wing extremism.
..."I know that some veterans groups were offended by the fact that veterans were mentioned in this assessment, so I apologize for that offense. It was certainly not intended," Napolitano said..."
However, the broad definition of a rightwing extremist in the report (see report below page 2) should be examined, first for its broadness and inaccuracy:
Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
Aren't groups that reject government authority called anarchist and aren't they usually considered radical left-wing ideologist? This report really baffles me.
The leftwing extremist report issued in January offered no definition whatsoever and claimed their only threat was cyber crimes.
There are statements under the "Key Findings" section on page 3 and 4 of this report and a couple of footnotes that are troubling which were not addressed in her apology:
"...The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks..."
... Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups, as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunitionby rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement.
The footnotes that are worrisome:
Page 4:According to a 2007 study from the German Institute for Economic Research, there appears to be a strong association between a parent’s unemployment status and the formation of rightwing extremist beliefs in their children—specifically xenophobia and antidemocratic ideals.
Page 6: (U//FOUO) DHS/I&A assesses that lone wolves and small terrorist cells embracing violent rightwing extremist ideology are the most dangerous domestic terrorism threat in the United States.
Did you get what the last footnote said? Small terrorist cells embracing rightwing extremist ideology are the most dangerous domestic terrorism threat to the United States! So does this report mean, home-grown jihadists are not the biggest terrorist threat to the U.S., all of a sudden?
Fox News asked Napolitano this morning about a specific footnote on page 2:
"...A footnote in the report, -- said that while there is no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are planning acts of violence, such acts could come from unnamed "rightwing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms -- and singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment.
"If there's one part of this report that I would rewrite ... it would be that footnote," Napolitano said..."
Who are these rightwing extremist groups anyway that might be recruiting new members? The country should be advised who the Obama administration considers extremist groups, of any kind.
Furthermore, it was Napolitano who said she would not use the word terrorism anymore but rather refer to terrorism as man-caused disasters. Yet, she didn't seem to have a problem breaking her self-imposed ban in this report.
MSNBC today said restriction were placed on them by the DHS as Napolitano tried to blame Washington spin for the problem in this interview.
Video (2:30 min.)
The DHS rightwing report encouraged law enforcement to report suspicious or criminal activity to DHS and the FBI. The DHS National Operations Center (NOC) can be reached by telephone at 202-282-9685 or by e-mail at NOC.Fusion@dhs.gov.
During her confirmation hearings, Napolitano told a Senate committee she preferred to use the term "man-caused disasters" in lieu of "terrorism" to describe ...

2009 terror plots (be sure to review previous years as well which are listed at the bottom)
Its time for another reality check on our national security risks from the head of the FBI who spoke yesterday at the Council of Foreign Relations. This assessment appears not to speak well for the Religion of Peace followers and their ability to rein in Islamic extremists with their own Muslim community:
"FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III today warned that extremists "with large agendas and little money can use rudimentary weapons" to sow terror, raising the specter that recent attacks in Mumbai that killed 170 people last year could embolden terrorists seeking to attack U.S. cities.
At a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, Mueller said that the bureau is expanding its focus beyond al-Qaeda and into splinter groups, radicals who try to enter the country through the visa waiver program and "home-grown terrorists."
"The universe of crime and terrorism stretches out infinitely before us, and we too are working to find what we believe to be out there but cannot always see," Mueller said.
One particular concern, the FBI director said, springs from the country's background as a "nation of immigrants." Federal officials worry about pockets of possible radicals among melting-pot communities in the United States such as Seattle, San Diego, Miami or New York.
A Joint Terrorism Task Force led by the FBI, for instance, continues to investigate a group in Minneapolis after one young man last fall flew to Somalia and became what authorities believe to be the first U.S. citizen to carry out a suicide bombing. As many as a half-dozen other youths from that community in Minnesota have vanished, alarming their parents and raising concerns among law enforcement officials that a dangerous recruiting network has operated under the radar..."
The United States can expect a terrorist attack using nuclear or more likely biological weapons before 2013, reports a bipartisan commission in a study being briefed Tuesday to Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
It suggests the Obama administration bolster efforts to counter and prepare for germ warfare by terrorists.
"The commission is also encouraging the new White House to appoint one official on the National Security Council to exclusively coordinate U.S. intelligence and foreign policy on combatting the spread of nuclear and biological weapons, per Fox News.
The first civilian court ruling went in favor of five terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay and against the United States government. A 6th suspect was ordered to stay for his ties to Al-Qaeda:
"A federal judge ordered the release of five Algerian terror suspects held without charges at Guantanamo Bay prison for almost seven years.
In the first civilian court ruling for terror suspects challenging their detention, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said Thursday that the five men could not be held indefinitely as enemy combatants.
...A senior Department of Defense official told FOX News that the government's case was hampered because the CIA would not hand over the classified information it had obtained in interrogating the 6 suspects.
The Department of Justice plans to appeal the Washington, D.C., court's ruling, the source told FOX. If the decision is upheld, the government will make arrangements to transfer the five men back to Algeria or Bosnia, according to a Defense spokesman on detainee affairs.
Never before has the FBI begun vetting officials of presidential candidates prior to being elected. But they have now.
"Officials from both campaigns have been asked to briefings after warnings from US intelligence that terrorists and rogue states will seek to exploit the power vacuum following November's presidential election.
For the first time in American history the FBI has begun vetting likely officials of the next administration before the election, to ensure they have security clearance to deal with crises on day one.
Intelligence chiefs expect an attempt to emulate the terrorist strikes on Britain when Gordon Brown took power and are concerned that Russia or Iran could use the 77 days of paralysis between the election and the inauguration on January 20 for acts of international brinkmanship, like the invasion of Georgia.
...The transition of power in the US is a chaotic process. More than 1,100 political appointees in senior posts have to be approved by the Senate, a process that can take months.
There have been particularly intensive efforts to make sure Mr Obama has his national security team in place, not just because he is widely expected to win the election on November 4, but because intelligence analysts believe America's enemies are more likely to try to take advantage of Mr Obama's international inexperience than they would of Mr McCain.
A senior official in the Obama camp, whose name has been submitted for FBI vetting, said: "We will be ready and we will be seen to be ready."
The New York Post is reporting that seven residents of New York City have received an invitation - to a bombing! This could very well be a sick hoax and police are investigating. It does seems to be more of a hoax rather than a serious threat because there isn't any reference to the Quran or Allah but you can never be sure:
NYPD detectives are investigating a chilling new terror threat - a series of cards from a "New York Jihad" that look like birthday-party invitations but warn of bombs in lower Manhattan this summer, The Post has learned.
The cards were mailed last week to the homes of seven city residents, including former Fox News television producer Kelley Vick and a person in the 26th Police Precinct, which covers West Harlem, according to Vick and police sources.
The card reads: "Bombs! Bombs! Bombs! Lower Manhattan. July, August, September. New York Jihad." Vick, a news producer who left Fox in early July, got the creepy mailing Thursday. She said it arrived at her Chelsea building but did not list her apartment number and had no return address. She went to police on Friday. "It says, 'You're invited to a party, so put on a happy face,' " she said. "There were faces of an elephant, a monkey, like cartoon animals. "Then you open the card, and inside is a piece of periwinkle paper and space for the date and time. That's where it says, 'Bombs! Bombs! Bombs!' in fancy type. "My name is printed on the envelope. The stamp is green with a heart. Everything about it is like a cute little party invitation. It's really weird." She said the postmark showed it had been sent Wednesday from Brooklyn.
Another terror warning in Europe, this time it is in Germany. Ttthe threat is considered part of a global threat from Islamists who seek to disrupt and eventually destroy democracies:
Berlin - Lebanese authorities warned of terrorist attacks on targets within Germany after arresting an al-Qaeda suspect in Beirut, prompting the Justice Ministry in Berlin increase security, authorities said on Saturday.
"There was a tip from Lebanon - a warning tip," said Stefanie Amft, a spokesperson for German federal police.
She gave no further details, except to say it was part of a global threat. "It is known that Germany is part of this worldwide threat," she said.
Germany was alerted after Lebanese authorities arrested a suspect on Thursday who was believed to have phoned a threat to the German Embassy in Beirut earlier in the week, a senior Beirut police official said.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation, said suspect Mohammed Naddoum was arrested after allegedly threatening to strike German security targets.
"Using special technology, the police were able to trace the man's location and identity and arrest him," the official said.
A plot targeting the Eiffel Tower for destruction by followers of the religion of peace has been uncovered.
A plot by Islamic terrorists to blow up the Eiffel Tower has been uncovered.
A scrambled short-wave radio conversation exposing the planned attack on the world's most visited monument was picked up by Portuguese air traffic controllers and passed on to French spy chiefs.
The 1,060ft high tower has more than six million visitors a year - an average of more than 16,000 a day.
A successful strike on the 7,500 ton iron tower, which was looked down on Paris since 1889, would be a French 9/11 and could cost thousands of lives.
The threat was uncovered in a "vague and muffled" radio conversation picked up by air traffic controllers in Lisbon on Thursday.
It comes after a spate of other threats made in recent days on the websites linked to Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terror network, calling for the "brothers of Islam to strike Paris".
A police source close to France's DST intelligance agency said last night: "It was a muffled conversation in Arabic that was passed on to us as a matter of course, but our analysts clearly identified the threat.
